Fault with my new TiVo?

Bought a new, unused Thomson TiVo via eBay. Got the inital 7 day grace period, and signed up for lifetime subscription. Love it.

I've had two bits of wierdness:

One day I went into the TiVo menu system, only to find that there was a double image of everything on the screen. I checked for loose Scarts but nothing wrong there, so I reset the box. All was fine, and I put it down to perhaps a software update coming down and requiring a restart.

Last night I had the box set to record "He Knew He Was Right", first on BBC1 then the next episode following immediately on BBC4. I switched the box as it was recording the second (BBC4) episode, to find something very strange going on.

Watching Live TV through the TiVo allowed me to here the sound, but the picture was completely garbled, with little or no recognisable image. Pressing the TiVo button brought up a double image of the TiVo background, but no menus. Pressing AUX allowed me to see the picture was coming in okay from the NTL (digital cable) box. I waited until the end of the programme (hoping it was recording) and then pulled the plug on the TiVo.

Checking through on restart I can see that the first episode recorded from BBC1 was fine, but the second one had scrambled video from beginning to end, although the audio was there okay. No real problem, as we can see the episode on BBC1 next Sunday, and the TiVo appears to be working fine now, but I'm worried that I have a fault with the box which could appear again, possibly when I'm not at home to fix it.Unmodded, recently first activated TiVo. 2.5.5 software. Box temperature fine (35-36 degrees C.) TiVo service number 023-0000-6021-XXXX.

Another thing which started happening last night: playing back widescreen programmes, sometimes the TV clicks in and out of widescreen mode quickly (I can hear the relay switch.) Could be connected?

What next? Do I inform TiVo customer services. I've checked the TiVoBugs site and browsed the forums, but can't see anything similar having come up. I was thinking about installing some upgrades (HD, ethernet, etc.) but am a bit more nervous now I've got problems already.

Many thanks!
