Backup Failure - MFS Backup - Need help

I have a 60hr TiVo Series 2 which I am trying to upgrade by adding a Maxtor 160Gb HD as a B drive.

I am usuing MFS Tools to backup the TiVo on my C: drive using the following configuration:

hda Primary Master - Windows C: drive.
hdb Primary Slave -new 160 GB upgrade drive.
hdc Secondary Master -TiVo A drive (60hr)
hdd Secondary Slave - cd-rom drive

I type the following which seems to work:
mkdir /mnt/dos
mount /dev/hda1 /mnt/dos

But, after I type in the following:

mfsbackup -f 9999 -6so /mnt/dos/tivo.bak /dev/hdc

programs begins the backup process but fails at 154 MB of 815MB (message says "Backup Failure"). I have tried to mount on Hda2 or Hda 5 as I have read, but that doen't seem to work (the message I get is "write protected drive" or "file system not specified")

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!!!

Sounds like you're running out of space on the FAT32 drive. Boot back to Windows and make sure you have over 1 gig of space left (make sure to disconnect tivo drive first).

What version of Windows is this? I'm thinking this is XP and hda5 is an NTFS volume.

If so, put a 2Gb FAT partition on your upgrade drive and use that for the backup phase.

I've got 10 gig of space left on the C: drive. I am running XP. I will try to put a 2gig FAT 32 partition. Is the next step to backup to this partition then copy the Tivo.Bak file to my C: drive?

Thank you for your help.

mount will allow you to backup directly to the FAT partition. You don't need to copy. To figure out if you have a FAT/FAT32 partition or whether its big enough. Boot the MFS Tools 2.0 CD.

Once you get the "/#" prompt, type fdisk DISK such as fdisk /dev/hda. Type m to list commands to use. I think its 'p' to list all the partitions available on the current disk. Then exit fdisk. fdisk is dangerous so don't use it to change your partition.

That's the idea. Make the backup and copy it off the drive before you make it a TiVo drive. Don't have the TiVo drive and the XP drive connected at the same time as Bad Things will happen if XP boots.

Then just follow Hinsdale and MFS Tools will prepare the drive for the TiVo.
