Movielink already does that, but the problem I found is the lack of a decent software player (one that will go full screen without any borders). I'm not sure what the resolution is on Movielink--I only downloaded their short animation that you can get for free.

Another option would be to send digital movie files to existing set-top boxes like TiVo. TiVo CEO Mike Ramsey serves on the Netflix board

I forget exactly what the option is, but the MovieLink player has a way to play using an external player (Windows Media Player) that can expand to full-screen just fine.

I did some tests and was able to watch a MovieLink movie on my TV via my video-out from my notebook this way.

movielink is no good. They still commit two major sins

first PRICE $4.99 for what they consider a new release and are movies already on the rent for a week from Blockbuster for at most $2.50

second 24 HOURS to watch the movie in. If I start a movie at 8pm after kids are in bed - then have to stop watching it for some reason -- I only have until 8pm the next night to finish it. at 8:01PM it is expired. THIS IS NUTS. and the main reason I stopped using the service. at least give us 48 hours for 5$. sheesh.

with my Netflix I can moderate my subscription to the season - watch less movies at home in the summer, etc.. can keep a movie for a month if I have to and in a bad maonth pay about 1.50$ per movie for a much, much deeper selection.

Since Mike Ramsey is on Netflix Board of Directors we should see some download service to our TiVo systems.

If they could combine this with TiVotogo to save the movie we would be in business!

That would be so awesome!

Tivo needs to score on something like this. I was a bit concerned when they didn't land a DVR contract with any of the major cable companies. But getting in on the ground floor of movies-on-demand with NetFlix would be huge for Tivo!

Fingers crossed! And hoping that by then we'll have 802.11g support for our Tivos, cause we'll need it for sure!

sure, we would be in the pirating DVD's business! :D

I guess if they charge the same price as a retail DVD, its possible but i really dont see them making is so simple to make your own DVD's for a significant discount off what retail DVD's cost.

Maybe they would allow you to watch the movie for hte same $3 that a renatl is and if you want to burn it, the tivotogo will allow it if you casugh up the extra bucks that it would cost to buy a dvd. But even then you wouldnt get all the bonus features and maybe not even teh DVD quality (unless theyu can get 2 layer dvd burners cooking some time soon- which might be possible)

I suppose its also possible that they would make the quality of the download so bad that it would not be like getting the dvd so the possibility of your buying the dvd is still there. But myself I would prefer we could download DVD quality (even if it takes days- just make me a que like you can get from netflix) and not be able to burn a copy. If it still wont be instant (and I cant think it will) then why bother screwing around giving us something less than the DVD quality we are all used to. I'm thinking many that would subscribe to such a service would also have HDTV's- i cant see these people watching some blocky download on their beautiful 50 inch plasma.
