I have a Series 1 HDR-312 with a 40GB HD and would like to add a 120GB HD for a total of 160GB. Is there any way to do this with out losing what I have on my 40GB?

Use Hinsdale as a guide to backup your TiVo disk, so you have an emergency image for future use. Note that this will not keep your recordings.
Then use Hinsdale to backup and restore your 40Gb to the 120Gb disk, including program data, remembering to increase swap file size (the -s 127 switch). Then MFSADD the original 40Gb disk.

For safety, it might be a good idea to first restore your image to the 120Gb and test it in the TiVo, just to make sure you have a good image.
