Need Help Upgrading Series 1 with HD and Cachecard

I have a series 1 Tivo Philips PTV300. It has a single 30gig drive in it. I purchased a new Maxtor 7200 rpm 80 gig drive, along with the InstantCake CD from 9th Tee as well as the cache card and a 512MB chip. My plan was to intall the cachecard and hook it up to my router, remove the old hard drive and replace it with the new one - no data backup required - I'll just shelf the old drive for an emergency and set myself up from scratch with the new drive.
Using the PTVupgrade Instantcake CD I baked the new drive with no problems. The whole thing took about 20 minutes. Then I copied the iso image of the NIC_Install CD from the silicon dust forum and burned it to a CD, and I also copied the latest cachecard 2.2 drivers and copied them to a floppy. I then booted the NIC_Install CD and installed the cachecard drivers from the floppy, specifically following the instructions from silicon dust. Again everything went without a hitch.
I then followed the PTVupgrade instructions to replace the old hard drive with the newly baked one. I cleaned the inside of my Tivo with cotton and alcohol (very carefully - I have some experience with this type of work), and installed the cache card, memory, and new hard drive. I also replaced the IDE cable inside the Tivo with a newer one.
When the Tivo boots I get the Philips intro screen for a few seconds, followed by the CacheCard screen which goes through three iterations (writing, verifying, and caching). Then the screen switches to a grey background and it says "Almost There. A few more seconds please..." where it freezes and does nothing else. I repeated the boot several times only to end up at the same screen.
Just to make sure I didn't screw up the internals of the tivo, I replaced the old hard drive and it booted up no problem. I then took it out again, replacing it with the new one, and I get the same exact problem again.
Also, curing the cachecard loading process I get solic green light on the cachecard and blinking red, so I think the card works fine.
I think maybe I shouldn't have run the NIC_Install CD after baking the drive with the InstantCake CD, but I'm not sure.
Can anyone provide me with some direction?
Thanks.

PS. If you really know your Tivo upgrade stuff and you think you can fix this problem for me, give me a call and I'll be happy to pay you for your time with a paypal transfer. I also have a few questions about copying recorded data from the tivo to my PC. My number is 917-747-1462.

This is your problem... The nic_install utilities rewrite the rc.sysinit and rc.net files in a way that is not compatible with our startup modifications.
No worries; you need to "rebake" your cake, and then boot your unit with the new disk (install your network card and memory and don't worry about the error when the cachecard attempts to initialize).
Then, follow the instructions here to update your drivers with the updates for the CacheCard 2.2.
