Whats the biggest hard drive I can slap into a hughes hdvr2 directivo unit, and is there a way to copy all my recorded shows from the old drive to the new one if I dont want to mess around with two drives in my tivo???

Unless you replace the kernel, you're limited to 137Gb (a 160Gb drive with some wastage). Copying the recordings is easy, but time consuming.
Read Hinsdale's post at the top.

above is correct, for the one drive.
You would get more, and not need to copy your recordings if you ADD the drive to the original instead of replace.
Pros- Quicker, keeps everything in tack, and more space.
Cons- you don't use the original as a backup in case a hard drive fails. and if a hard drive does fail, it is more work involved to recover.
