I can't believe no one's started this one yet. Some thoughts on the Semi-Finale:
Overall a decent episode...a couple of laugh-out-loud moments, but only a couple.
Some really lame jokes - including Chandler's fart sounds.
Poor Courtney Cox Arquette looks like she's wearing her fat suit from TOWT Prom Video. She's got to hate that so many people are seeing her in that condition - although the reason couldn't be happier.
Matthew Perry seems finally to have gotten his weight stabilized - just in time.
David Schwimmer has completely lost touch with the Ross character. That scene with Rachel should have been touching and sweet, but both of them were floundering around trying to recapture the lost chemistry. I was a huge fan of the R&R relationship, but I don't even care anymore. Ross is now one of the most annoying characters I've ever seen on TV.
Does anyone even CARE that Monica and Chandler are getting their baby? I haven't been following the show closely until last week, but it seems like this has just been ignored. Phoebe's triplets got much more play - and they were juxtaposed against the Ross-Emily wedding fiasco AND the beginning of the Monica-Chandler romance.
Joey can still make me laugh, but he's the only one. I thought he was the least likely to be able to carry a spinoff, but he may pull it off.
Best lines:
"What did I just TELL you?" (Joey to others when Rachel starts crying)
"Joey's bare ass!"
"None of the amazing things that happened to me over the last ten years would have happened without you." (The only truly touching moment in the show for me)

You should probably include a date in the subject line. Otherwise, people have no way of knowing what episode you're talking about before clicking in here, and you could still ruin it for them.
Posted by: Skittles
Oh, and the best line of the night...
"And if I seem cranky and bitchy, it's because you're doing it wrong".
Classic Monica. :)
Posted by: Beancounter25
"If I'm harsh with you, it's because you're doing it wrong!"
Hate to be a nitpicker, but it's too good a line to mess up. Should have included it in my list.
And I'll try to change the subject line.

I thought it was sort of boring and unfunny. For example, the Joey suicide thing--my wife laughed at it but I thought it was predictable.
Also, the heads I win, tails you lose--really reaching to the bottom of the bucket.

Was there a scene during the credits? If so, could someone summarize it for me. I forgot to pad the episode.

Phoebe and Joey stuff Joey's pants with the styrofoam peanuts. Phoebe kicks him in the groin. The peanuts didn't help soften the blow. :)

I wonder when Ross is going to realize that his daughter is also moving to France. Then again, Emma must be pretty advanced for her age, since nobody has any qualms about leaving her in the apartment by herself.

Up until the last scene, this episode exceeded all my most exciting expectations. Rachel says an emotional goodbye to all her friends, but totally omits Ross. I've been really rooting for this series to end with Ross being left out in the cold and Rachel going to Paris. For Rachel to skip Ross on the good-byes makes this so much sweeter.
But then she gives him the nice good-bye in the end that Ross craved.
Oh well, there's still hope. Rachel can still leave Ross behind.

Thanks

I don't mean to dump on this thread, but I fast forwarded through most of this episode. All the emotional goodbye things I skipped. This show is supposed to be a sitcom. Com stands for comedy.

I thought it was horrible.. at least Seinfeld had some funny episodes near the very end (Puerta Rican Parade...)
Friends has been terrible.. not even funny at all.... the only cute part was with Joey getting punched in the head with the bubble wrap on...
And I've also noticed how Emma doesn't appear very much - where the heck is she?
Posted by: LlamaLarry
She's back at Rachel's apartment wondering why mommy is across the street at daddy's. ;)
I am definitely wondering why Ross does not seem to mind Emma leaving, but then again where the hell is Ben?

Emma is mentioned.... Ross asked Rachel why she won't say goodbye to the father of Emma. But I agree, as a father I would find it simply unacceptable to live in a different city than, let alone across the ocean from, my child.

Haven't you heard? Friends is now a soap opera. :p

I agree the Joey bubble-wrap thing was funny. I also liked his comment at the end wanting to know where the prego girl got the cheeseburger.
I'm glad Joey's the one that's getting a spinoff. He's the only funny character on the show.

So next week they are going to do the following:
1. Baby for Monica and Chandler
2. Monica and Chandler move
3. Joey gets a job offer and moves to LA
4. Rachel and Ross
It is going to be an eventful hour. Only Phoebe has her situation sewen up.

Well they still have not wrapped it up. She is probably still going to Paris, wo they will have the "catch her at the gate" scene.

Yes, that could work nicely.
Ross: I can't let you leave.... I love you!
Rachel: Get over it.
<shot of Rachel entering the plane, the door closing, the plane taking off, and Ross crying. >
The credits roll. Perfect ending.

I bet Ross moves to Paris too.
Posted by: YCantAngieRead
Sheesh.
I thought the whole (and not a direct quote-I don't remember the words) "It's like when Melrose Place went off the air.....oh screw it, I really miss Melrose Place" line was classic.
I liked the episode because there were moments we haven't seen in a while-just people screwing around and doing stupid stuff, like the bubble wrap and Monica's weird menu.
I thought I'd cry, though. I didn't. I think I've figured out how not to get emotional at television shows-eat a Culver's butterburger while watching. :)
By the way, I DID pad the episode and I think our station rolled over the scene during the credits. Color me VERY ticked off.

Actually, no, we won't get this. This won't be until the Joey premiere. This was mentioned in one of the TV Guide interviews. The producers saw no reason to use the finale to launch Joey, as it is a pretty well-known commodity and will be heavily advertised.
I don't think Frasier was pushed in the Cheers finale, and it did OK.

I'm done with NBC's scheduling. This whole season I've blocked off large chunks of NBC with manual recordings. I don't miss anything anymore. :)

One of those definetly WON'T happen.
Read on for which one....

You know -- it occured to me as I was watching last night's ep... I don't think Ross has actually asked Rachel to stay... Sure, he made some lame attempt to bribe her boss to re-hire her so she wouldn't go, but he has yet to actually tell her....
Posted by: timckelley
He's not the boss of her. Still, Emma would be a good reason to give for staying. So I suppose for Emma's sake they should stay together. I guess the reason I've been hoping for them not to stay together is because I don't like Ross's character, but that's no reason to punish the baby. But maybe Rachel will meet and marry a frenchman who will become a good father for Emma, so Emma need not suffer from the transaction. So, bomb's away: reject Ross! :)

It's the case of the conveniently disappearing baby, common on many TV shows with single parents, Sex and the City comes to mind as another show. What about when they all went to Bermuda? Who watched the baby then? The other thing I could never figure out is how they always somehow managed to make enough money to rent big apartments in Manhattan, even when they were just serving coffee or unemployed.

My prediction is that Ross and Rachel will get married and go to Paris together.

Magda or Steve watched the baby.

Rent control. There are four-bedroom apartments in Manhattan that are rented for $276 a month. If you don't have one now, though, you'll never get one unless you marry someone with one.
No, not really. This is a common TV fantasy, just as there are always parking spots available right in front of whatever building you're going to and you never have to lock your car.

Here is what I have heard in what happens with Ross and Rachel
Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)
Ross goes to the airport for the "gate scene" buts ends up going to the wrong airport. He returns to find that Rachel hasn't left. He asks her to be his fourth wife and she accepts and promises that she will be better than his third
Posted by: timckelley
I'm not sure I want to read Azlen's post. May I ask where you got the info and how reliable it is? If it's reliable, I think I'm gonna let it be a surprise.

OK, the coin flip scene was kinda cheezy, but it was also classic. It reminded me of the armchair shoot-out, and of well, the bubble wrap. It became VERY funny when Joey starts thinking about it later:
"Yeah, Heads she wins, and tails I loose."
"Wait a minute!"
[Joey pauses, thinking.)
"I forgot to pickup my dry cleaning!"
Classic. I liked that.
Ross throwing a tantrum == LAME-O. He has gotten VERY annoying in the last few years.

My uncle lives in a rent controlled apartment in Manhattan, so I can vouch for this.
Also, they mentioned that it was their grandma's apartment (owner of the handcuffs) so the rent control must go back pretty far (not sure if it works like that, can it be passed on to relatives?)

And Sit stands for Situation: "The combination of circumstances at a given moment." Without the context of the characters and their relationships, a sitcom is just some people trying to tell some jokes.

The info came from the "Watch with Kristin" column on E!online

Once again, more ammo for us Ross haters. That scene where he chases her across the hall and chews her out without even letting her explain was so ridiculous. I thought this episode was pretty dull overall.
As for Emma, didn't anyone else notice that when Rachel first came in the door for the party, she was carrying her baby monitor? Emma was asleep and she was simply using the monitor to be across the hall and still hear her.
Posted by: swizzlest
Another vote for boring. Just didn't work for me.
Posted by: YCantAngieRead
I got the feeling that Joey was with Emma when Rachel went over to Ross's. I get the feeling they used him as a "babysitter" a lot in the series when we, the audience thought-hey, where's the baby?

Go back in the series a LONG way, and you'll run into the episode where Joey teaches the handyman to dance in return for him not telling that Monica was illegally subleting the place. I know next to nothing about subleting and all that since I live in a small town, so pardon me for not explaining it better.
EDITED FOR A NOTE: DO NOT READ the spoiler about the finale posted by someone else above if you don't want any clues about the ending. It's accurate.

Or lock your front door.
Anyway, conveniently disappearing babies are at least as old as I Love Lucy. And that's with a two parent household. Nothing new there.

PLEASE LET THIS SHOW GET IT OVER WITH AND REST IN PIECE, IT IS TIME!!!

Jeez. I have tried to keep my mouth mostly shut over this in the last week but good lord, if you hate the show, DON'T FREAKIN' OPEN THE THREAD.
Gah.
Posted by: Supfreak26
Put me down for someone very disappointed in this ep. Seems like they were trying to hard to be all emotional and didn't let the show play to its natural strengths. Too much girly stuff. Not enough good laughs.
The bubble-wrap scene was hilarious though. Good stuff.

Are you implying that nobody would be that dumb? I'm guessing your one of those people who conveniently forgets everytime you are the idiot and often makes others feel stupid. I tend to come of as a know it all myself often (like here) but I have to take offense to your comment because my wife (who had aparently never heard the "Heads I win tales you loose" cliche') took quite a bit of starring at her blankly before she got it.
Don't forget, everybody has to have had a first time they heard it and I'm sure there are more than a handfull who just accept it to mean what you expect it to (Heads I win tails you win) without giving it a second thought.
Of course 36 times is a bit of an exageration, but so is Joey.
