The Yankees are playing. The golf will come on when the game is over.

ah....
thanks

I want to know why I can get the Yankees game on 380 but not on 80. At the very least I would think that 80 would be an SD feed of the game. If it is because of blackout rules, then why isn't 380 blacked out? I'm so glad I have DNS waivers so I can watch the golf on 81.

I encountered this problem a week or so ago and asked that same question in this forum. I was pounced by a few cry-babies who were upset that I called DirecTV and asked about this in fear that they may lose their SD programming on channel 380.
I spoke with a very dear friend of mine over KCAL-9 in LA who put me in touch with someone at WCBS who was more the willing to explain this mystery to me.
This is the condensed version of what I learned:
WCBS-TV (SD) was already being carried by DirecTV when they aquired the rights to the Yankee's from WNYW-5 and in short the Yankee's agreed to allow the games to be broadcast. WCBS-DT (HD) was not covered under this agreement (as DirecTV was not carrying the signal nor had any plans) and as such games on WCBS-DT are restricted to those within the NYC DMA.
All this may change once it comes time re-do contracts but I wouldn't looking forward to seeing that happen soon as I was told the contracts are not to come up until 2010..
If you want to watch something like Golf which is being pre-empted for the Yankee's, flip on over to 81 and watch it off the Left Coast..

Pure speculation on my part. :) But it sounds good...
The SD feed only exists for NY-area local market subscribers and qualified distant-network/waiver subscribers, so the numbers involved were probably comparatively small that there wasn't a requirement to implement conditional access on the channel for non-local-market subscribers.
But since the HD feed exists for CBS owned-and-operated areas and local NY market subscribers, the conditional access system was a necessity, and got implemented, and is being used.
Do all east/central owned-and-operated areas get the CBS-NY SD feed too? If it's only to those with waivers (not including owned-and-operated people who didn't need explicit waivers), then this'll probably continue; but if they turned that on for everyone in an owned-and-operated market too, I'd guess eventually it'll be blacked out too.
And of course, the same would apply to the LA feed as appropriate.

Thanks for that Fluffy, I missed that response in the other thread. Makes sense.
What's really weird is that the guide on my HTL-HD shows the golf from 3 to 6 on 80. (Same as Zap2It) TitanTV has it correct.

Man, where was this thread when I needed it today? I hadn't really paid attention until my TiVo arrived... After being on the phone with Pegasus for an hour, I came here.... Lesson learned. Check here first!
