"Friends" finale may not record!

If you use an auto-record wishlist of FRIENDS "THE ONE" it will probably NOT pick up the final episode on Thursday! Leave it to them to change their normal practice for (I think) every other single episode for the last episode.

Also, as gcutler pointed out elsewhere, there is a one-hour clips show that comes on immediately before the final episode, so if you have a end pad on your season pass or wishlist you may not record both episodes.

For those interested, I got a message on my TiVo this morning about the Friends finale. Says pretty much the same thing. It's good to know the folks at TiVo recognize the padding issue.

No "probably" about it. It won't. I noticed that on the weekend and forced a 1-time recording of the final episode.

Trivia... there are exactly two episodes (that aren't clip shows, etc., just normal episodes) that don't have their episode title start with "The One". The finale that's coming up this Thursday (titled "The Last One") and the very first one (titled "The Pilot").

Also be aware if you pad the start of ER because it would start early, it too would conflict with Friends: "The Last One". Which one would record depends on the Season Pass Manager rankings.

Also beware if you have your TiVo set to Keep At Most: 1 Episode
If you have Keep Until Space Needed TiVo will only store the later of the two episodes "The Last One"
If you have Keep Until I Delete TiVo will only record the first of the two episodes "The One With All the Other Ones"

I'm not going to watch Friends (havne't in years) but kudos to the TiVo team for getting a message sent out (at least to SAs) alerting the faithful that pervious padding could effect your recordings tomorrow.........Good job!

I also noticed that another reason why Friends won't record both new episodes on Thursday. Per my Tivo, the first episode starts at 8:00 and ends at 8:59pm
The second one (The Last One) starts at 8:58pm according to the guide! So I get an error message that states that the second one will not record due to overlapping.

I even removed the padding and it still would not work. So I just set the first one to record and a stop time of 1 hour later.

Just thought I would share!

Trivia... "The Pilot" actually has two alternate titles, "The One Where it All Began" and "The One Where Monica Gets a Roommate". I'm not sure which one the TiVo guide data uses, though.

Based on how the ending goes I nomintate either:

"The one where they tied up all the loose ends and everybody said it was stupid b/c the writers should have left us hanging"

or

"The one where they didnt even tie up the loose ends and everybody said it was stupid b/c the writers should have left us with closure"

Another issue! Either make sure that you're recording ER afterwards, or pad Friends by at least 10 minutes, because it (Friends finale) is going to run about 6 minutes after the top of the hour. In other words, my DirecTivo shows the Friends finale ending at 8:59 (Central), when it's actually not going to end until 9:06 or 9:07.

Also, if you do record ER, pad that or you'll miss the ending of it, since it will end late too.

What the ****! I too padded my season pass of friends by an hour and a half but is stopped at 8:59. I looked at my season pass and it still says stop recording 1 and half hours later but it did not work.

Padding a recording in progress that originally scheduled to end on time is not reliable. Even padding a buffer save (bit me trying to save space on a late-start 60 Minutes).

That's weird... I've never had a padded recording of any type fail. In fact I wound up deleting the Friends finale and ER recording items while the Friends clips show was in progress. Then I added 3 hours to the clips show.
