A thread at hometheaterforum.com turned me on to this article about Arrested Development. http://the-op.com/view/article.php?sect=2900&a=37

Something to note:

Can you comment on when we’ll see a DVD release of Arrested Development?

Hopefully, late summer.

Excellent news! I know I'll be first in line to buy it.

Excellent news. This will save me a lot of hassle archiving these shows!

Me too! ;)

Too late for me...I've got them all on DVD already!

But I suppose the commercially-available version will be widescreen and perhaps have some commentary tracks and other extras.

Sigh...guess I'll have to have it anyway! ;)

I'm not really sure this is good news. Most shows don't reach DVD so quickly unless they are dead. Gotta hold back the DVDs because of syndication.

Hopefully I'm wrong. As the article says, we'll know by May 20th.

Forget Arrested Development, I want more info on the banana that steals other bananas!

The Banana Grabber? :D

ClutchBrake: Conversely, this could be seen as a sign that Fox is strongly leaning toward renewing the show for a second season, and they want to use the DVD release to build enthusiasm and (hopefully) gain new fans. That's what they did with "24."

The shield is also on dvd so soon. I won't look at that as a reason for it to be gone.

24 isn't exactly a show with a lot of syndication potential though. They need to strike while the iron is hot to get their money's worth.

The Shield doesn't count either, it is not network TV. Typically network TV and cable TV are different as far as DVD releases.

I hope to hell it gets renewed. It is my favorite new comedy. I'll be buying the DVDs either way.

With a 12 month delay.

Maybe they have it ready for a mid-season replacement next year, and then the DVD sales are big and they go ahead and produce new episodes.

I think the ratings for the final episode were pretty decent, it was like 75th or something for the week which is better than usual.

I guess we'll find out soon.

Care to share them with me? I could send discs or some similar arrangement.

Actually, AD on DVD could be a huge help. If they get it out during the summer it might bring additional audience to the 2nd season if it is renewed.

Posted by: ClutchBrake

I wonder if they will promote the heck out of the June 6th episode or just burn it off.

"inside" sources, whatever the hell that means think AD is a lock to come back next year....

inside sources, at one time, said it was a lock that the earth was flat.

From today's USA Today:

Fox will unveil what's essentially a year-round schedule, beginning with five shows already announced for early this summer. In addition, fans of the struggling Arrested Development and Tru Calling can relax: Fox is hiring additional writers for both series, a strong sign they'll return.

Damn it! I knew I shouldn't have given up the animation rights!

According to Variety, Arrested Development has been picked up for a second season.

The headline is here.

Well that is good news!

Great news! I just hope the show doesn't suffer because of it.

I can picture the suits at Fox telling Imagine execs that the ratings need to go up, so the show needs to be a little more mainstream.

AD is a great show. One of the funniest and most original sitcoms in a long time. If other people I knew watched it, we could have water cooler discussions. :)

This is great! Easily the funniest show on TV - hopefully season 2 will be as good as season 1.
