Like I said in my other post, my wife has been dying for one of these. I got the 140 hour box at sam's club for 318.00.

I cant open the box yet because I need to wrap it for my wife so I cant look at the directions. I have a digital cable box from adelphia (motorolla box) how do I hook it up so it all works right?

one more thing. I have a 36in. TV, what quality should I use to record. I want about the same quality as the original broadcast. How many hours does each quality record for, I bought the "up to 140 hours" model

The manual is pretty good. I can also recommend TiVo for Dummies, which is full of helpful advice that goes beyond the manual.

The 140 hours is at "Basic". Figure about 40 hours (I think) for "best", and the others are in between. I suggest you start with High and see what you think.

Here is a PDF of TiVo manual similar to yours. It should get you where you need to be. (It has all kinds of scenarios that people might hook up. Many combinations of VCRs, Antennas, Cable Boxes and Sound systems. Just make sure you're within 50 feet of a phone jack.

If you really want to surprize her, hook it up, run through the setup program (it pops up when you turn on your Tivo the first time) Put a bow on it and let it sit for 8 hours. (It needs it for some reason before you can tell it to record things.) Then you both can imediately start finding stuff to record.

Definitely unpack the TiVo and run through guided setup and let it index overnight (maybe do it at a friend's house). Otherwise, it will be a little anti-climatic after the initial joy...
