The Future of HMO

Okay, I keep hearing rumors of something called TiVo to Go. From what I understand, I will be able to put shows on my computer from my TiVo and watch them there. (Thank you "fair use" laws.) I've seen so many posts of people wanting to do this and it's SUCH a chore. This would be GREAT! But wait... Will I be able to put the shows back on my TiVo to watch there, like the MP3 playlist? I dunno, if that's not the case it wouldn't be as cool. How about the format, will I be able to copy and share files or burn to DVD easily or do I have to find some seedy hack program? (Think of the Itunes format. Only works on an iPod, can't be copied and shared.) This feature could be very frustrating if it isn't as cool as people hope, but if you have HMO and are waiting for more features, any cool new thing will be much appriciated, right? Well, that brings me to my last inquiry: Will this make HMO prices go up if I don't buy now? (I wish I'd got on on the first sample month for $60... stupid... stupid...stupid...)

Any other rumors of what HMO can do? (I've heard the netflix one. That could be cool, but it looks like Netflix isn't making any money, so I hope they stick around long enough to do it. Or I hope some big video chain buys them out, shuts them down and makes them all very, very rich. They deserve it for having such a great idea.)

The digital files transfered to the PC using TiVoToGo will be encrypted. In order to play these files the PC will need special software and USB dongle. However the software does allow you to brun an unencrypted DVD which will play in any commercial DVD player. So you'd still be able to send shows to friends, archive them, etc...

As for transferring programs back to the TiVo.... All the features of TiVoToGo have not been divulged yet. However this feature was big part of a recent survey on the subject, so TiVo is definitely considering it.

Another software feature that will cost $100+ I'm sure.
He also said USB dongle. I'll change my guess to $200+

The dongle won't add much to the price. You can get USB memory sticks for less than $20 now a days and the dongle won't need the expensive flash ram than memory sticks have.

The software is what will be expensive. Something simple like MyDVD costs $50 for the cheapest version. I'm hoping TiVoToGo will cost around $50 since you have to purchase HMO first, but most likely it will be around $100.

Speaking of TiVo2Go, fall isn't that far away (only 4 months) and there's still no new news on TiVo2Go.

If I had to guess I'd say TiVoToGo will cost $50-$100. If it was any higher I don't think many people would go for it.

I'd really like to see Tivo come out with A driveless or small drived HMO only hadware boxes. (no tuner, no encoder) to allow you to cheaply and easily stream using MultiRoom Viewing content to other rooms TV's w/o having to get more tuners to deal with, or a monthly/lifetime subscription for tuner info that you never plan on using. Just buy the box, and it gets added to your existing HMO account and your good to go for Photo Viewing, Music Listening, and Remote Watching.

I would say this is unlikely, mainly because all the hardware exists now, but TiVo don't allow that setup.

What I'm talking about is that you could potentially buy a second TiVo that you didn't pay subscription on (hence no record capabilities) but did pay the $50 second HMO unit. That would enable you to do exactly what you want. But at the moment, you can't out HMO on an unsubscribed box

I would be pissed even if its in that price range. There are so many other things that could be implemented into the Tivo service itself, along with HMO that I paid good money for. I'm getting mighty tired of shelling out dollars(my choice to do it, I know) to other Tivo services that haven't had any major improvements in a year. And in HMO's case I don't think they made any improvements since its launch. I won't be biting if TiVoToGo is over $50.

TiVoToGo has to cost something. The USB dongle and the bundled software aren't free, so there is no way the could give it to you free just because you paid for HMO.

If it makes you feel any better TiVoToGo is going to require HMO on the TiVo. So anyone starting from scratch will have to buy HMO for thier TiVo(s) AND TiVoToGo for their computer.
