Official I Could Care Less About Friends Thread!

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Rangers4me

This show is way over-hyped and way past its prime. It was good for three or four years, and then the writing got stale. Anyone else excited for this show to finally end?

Posted by: Bryanmc

I don't care if it ends or if it stays on.

I don't watch it anymore, won't watch tonight unless the kids are asleep and my wife's watching it.

Posted by: doom1701

I'm glad to see it end. Not because I don't care about the show (I don't anymore--haven't for a long time), but because I'm sick to death of the "Friends is almost done!" crap everywhere.

Posted by: jwjody

I don't know which thread to post in. I started watching Friends last year when I thought it was going to be it's last season. Then when they extended it I stopped. But I haven't watched one ep this year.

I think I will watch tonight though.

I've never seen an episode of Friends. Don't plan to start anytime soon.

Just thought I'd share. :D

Posted by: SoldOnTiVo

What LoadStar said. :)

Posted by: woyton

Me three! Never watched a single episode.

Posted by: RockJock

I am so glad to hear all this. I thought I was the only person on earth who never watched it. :)

Never liked the show Friends. Now only if that stupid Amercian Idol will end, I am so sick of it.

Posted by: jsmeeker

I've watched a few episodes. But that was years ago.. "Smelly Cat" still cracks me up to this day.

But I have no interest in the show. Same goes with Frasier.

Good reason to give the kids coffee before bed....

Posted by: Rangers4me

I watch tons and tons of TV, like most of you guys, but I have never seen a full episode of Friends. I have seen bits and pieces of episodes in syndication, but never a new one on NBC. I never got the whole Friends phenomenon. I don't know if it is the laugh track that turns me off, or the dumb comedy. How many times can you laugh at someone going, "How youuuu doin."?

Posted by: jones07

I watched pieces of 2 or 3 episodes in their 10 year run, and I just didn't get it. Guess I'm not in the Demographic of their viewership

Posted by: SammyTerry

Friends is a great show! I watch it every spare moment I have! I won't be friends with anyone why doesn't watch Friends!

There always seems to be someone crapping in pro-tv show threads it just seemed appropriate for there to be some in an anti-tv show thread

Posted by: Turtleboy

I used to watch it the first few seasons, until they started scheduling Survivor against it, then I switched to Survivor.

But the real reason I stopped is that I came to think that all of the characters were despicable people (except for Phoebe), desparetly in need of beatings.

Posted by: midas

I don't know how long it's been since I've seen an episode. I lost interest years ago. Won't be watching tonight.

Posted by: mrpurple

I watch occasionally. But, really don't care one way or the other.

Posted by: GT3NE1

Okay, is it "I could care less" or "I couldn't care less"? I thought NOT being physically able to care less would be worse.

BTW, this post isn't OT or anything. :)

Posted by: pcgrrll

Never watched it and never will. I was also in the "thought I was the only one who never watched Friends" club. Wow, I feel better now.. :D

It's nice to know you are not alone.

Posted by: jamesbobo

I didn't like the first episode of Friends and I've only seen two or three shows all the years its been on. I won't be watching tonight.

Posted by: YCantAngieRead

Aw shoot. I was going to do that, since I'm always getting onto people for crapping in threads I like.

Oh well, you take a nap, you deserve to miss your opportunity for a joke. :D

and keep this thread dedicated to the Friends bashing. :D

The correct phrase is "couldn't care less". Your reasoning is exactly right.

However, many who grew up saying it incorrectly prefer to continue doing so, claiming that they're just being sarcastic. But major linguistic investigations into the origin of this phrase (if you're into that sort of thing) have debunked that excuse.

The bottom line is that you're likely to continue seeing this phrase used incorrectly, as those who do so prefer to defend rather than change their usage. So it is something up with which one must put.

Posted by: jerobi

Just remember, your torment isn't over.

NBC is bound to air this episode again next week, followed by plenty of "relive your favorite Friends moments" "events" this summer, etc.

I think my least favorite theme with TV shows these days is the whole retrospective routine. They're TV characters (or reality contestants, etc) that are leaving the show...NOT DYING.

Lucky us. Now if you'll excuse me, I promised someone I'd sit through this 2-hour fun fest.

Posted by: tomo_kun

Im sick of this. Friend was on the FRONT PAGE of our newspaper today!! WTF? Why?? Its a crappy show, i doubt i will watch tonights show.

I am upset that frasier is being cancled, i have recently gotten into this show, and i now watch it on UPN.

Posted by: jmenjes

Add me to the growing list of those who have never watched that show, will not watch tonight, and never plan to watch it in syndication.

And I'm pretty darned happy about that!

Posted by: randym431

Me too!
I'm also proud to admit I'm not hooked on survivor, American idol (which is a joke now anyway), or reality shows in general.
I do still like candid camera, the original reality show that all the others stole from.

Posted by: mrpurple

Well, I don't care. But, my girlfriend does and she wants to kill me right now. I'm experiencing rain fade on the DTiVo due to extremely heavy thundershowers. She is going nuts.

Funny thing is I don't think I've ever had it before.

Posted by: Turtleboy

And the last episode ran long. People who didn't pad are going to miss the end.

Look for a sh!tstorm to happen very quickly.

I guess I need to pad ER a little.

:)

I was accused by my friends of being a communist because I did not like "Friends." This was back in the late 90s when it was ultra-popular to like "Friends."

I think I might have seen a part of one episode once. I don't ever want to see another.

Posted by: canonelan2

never watched a single episode and never plan to.

Posted by: michad

Thank God this show is over.

Posted by: sschwart

I haven't watched in years, but my girlfriend insisted on having me tivo the last episode so she could find out what happened to Ross and Rachel. I wouldn't have recorded it otherwise.

Posted by: Hoffer

I watched it in about 15 minutes. I fast forwarded through a lot of it. I mainly just wanted to see what happened with Ross and Rachel. Not big surprises IMO.

Posted by: scooterboy

Well since so many of you over the past few years have come in and crapped on every Friends thread, I guess I'll return the favor.

It was a GREAT series and the finale was very good. I'm going to miss this show.

And tomo_kun: it was on the front page because so many people like the show and don't think it's crappy.

And Frasier isn't being cancelled - they're just calling it quits.

Whew - thread-crapping is fun! No wonder you guys loved to do it so much. ;)

Posted by: dansee

Not being a sitcom watching guy, I never watched the show, so I'm not qualified to comment on its passing with either a thumbs up or down.

But I'm so damn GLAD that we won't have to be pummeled with "It's Almost Nearly the End of Friends!" splattered all over the news anymore. Sheesh. Enough is enough already. . .

Aren't thread crappers amazing? I have never understood the need of some people to go out of their way to try and put down and dismiss as crap something that others enjoy. I noticed the Friends appreciation thread has had one such post so far.

It always seemed to be a bit of a petty way to try and make oneself feel superior to others.

Posted by: randym431

Wow, what a great Friends show. I'm sorry I never watched it before. I loved the part where the machines from the future came back and destroyed the whole country. I cant believe they had Arnold Schwarzenegger in it too. And who was that blond girl made of metal that Arnold slammed her head into the Toilet? Great show!

Just a note here, and then I'll let you guys continue with your hate-fest... :D (and I am actually glad someone started this thread, you guys deserve to have your say too, and even one of my favorite people in the world, Anderson Cooper, remarked on the overkill today...)

At any rate, as a long-time Friends fan, I'm not sure I've ever known a time when it was ultra-popular to be a fan. I've always gotten a certain amount of crap for enjoying it.

Posted by: murgatroyd

Well, this has been amusing.

Just for the hell of it, since I was waiting for my husband to get back from his business trip and had both TiVos to myself, I decided to watch the retrospective show and the finale tonight. I have never seen Friends except for the stuff which is impossible to miss (channel-flipping, ads, clips in interviews, etc.). But I knew they were doing a special show on The Tonight Show, and I wanted to pick up enough stuff to get the jokes.

So -- coming to the show almost completely cold, yeah, I can see what the fuss was all about, but I can also see that it's a good thing I never tried to watch it because I would have hated it. Some of it is that the cast does their jobs too well and I just would have hated those people. Lisa Kudrow's character, for example, is somebody I'd want to shove out an airlock.

I tip my hat to those of you who did like the show -- it's always sad when something you like goes away. I can stand back and see the craftsmanship. But for my personal enjoyment -- nope, I haven't been left with the feeling that I should have been watching, and that I've missed a lot.

It's time to let these poor people get on with the rest of their careers.

Oh boy... it was full of excitement, surprises, shocking developments---- NOT.

Who the hell couldn't have predicted every frickin' minute of this episode? Geez.

I'm glad I stopped watching friends a couple of years ago if this is an example of their best writing effort.

Posted by: mitchb2

Sweet! We thought there was a half-hour clip show followed by a half-hour finale. So my wife realized at 8:45 that the clip show was an hour long.

So we cancelled CSI and watched the last 15 minutes of the Friends finale. Much better than having to watch a full hour of those whining nincompoops.

What a yawn fest. Very glad to see it go. That 15 minutes was a perfect summary to 10 years of crap. "Rachel, don't go....wahhh."

Posted by: Marco

I liked it for the first 3 or 4 years, then (for me) it jumped the shark. So I watched the finale. It reminded me of the things I once liked about the show, and ESPECIALLY of the reasons I stopped watching. Sorry Friends, it's past your time to go!

Back in years 2-4 it was extremely popular to be a fan - i remember I was in college and it got to be so popular that I was getting annoyed with it (as in, annoyed with how trendy it had become to love the show). I was afraid it was going to end up being one of those shows that once it was no longer 'hip to like it' that it would die out. And since it was my favorite show, i did not want that to happen.

Luckily, it never got that backlash and quick fall out of popularity that extremely trendy things tend to suffer through.

Posted by: allan

I don't give a flying fig about "Friends". I've already stated my opinion about modern s#itcoms, and the only two distinctions Friends had were:

1. It was overhyped more
2. I got the front end of it on Tivo after the 6PM news.

Those two factors made it harder to ignore than most sitcoms, so it sucked worse than they did. Otherwise, it was just one of a poor crowd.

Posted by: johnb41

I saw about 2 or 3 eps in the first season... i thought i'd at least give it a chance. I just didn't get the humor... not funny to me at all. So i stopped watching and haven't watched an ep since.

John

Posted by: WinBear

Never watched it, won't miss it.

Posted by: Fustanella

I couldn't care less about Friends, either.

Posted by: Dweller

I will be happy to see all 10(!!) friends threads eventually scroll off the first page of this forum.

Good point! At least for me, I "did" give it a chance in the first season... just 2 or 3 eps. Didn't make me laugh so i stopped. At the time i thought the show would not last. i can't believe it has lasted this long and has been this popular!

John

Posted by: Fustanella

I've seen part of one, combined with ongoing hype over the years. That was enough for me.

Posted by: Talon

Hey, those who dislike Friends are just stating thier opinion. Thats okay isn't it? This whole place is built on opinions practically. Thats why people come in this tv show forum, to say if something sucks or something is good.

So since I am here, lets just say last night was the one of the greatest night of my life. Friends is over. Did I just hear myself correctly? Yes, I did! Freinds is over! Oh My God! This is great!! Praise the Lord!!

I hate Friends! I hate that stupid theme song! I hate all of that cast!

I hate Friends!
I hate Friends!
I hate Friends!
I hate Friends!
I hate Friends!
I hate Friends!
I hate Friends!
I hate Friends!

There! Thats feels good!

Posted by: mitchb2

> "Don't support crap because you're sick of other crap."

Ain't that the truth!

Funny, that show "Jesse," in the *gasp* coveted post-Friends time slot was a hundred times better than Friends itself.

Posted by: YCantAngieRead

Eeeew. I must disagree. Jesse, while a good show in the first season, really did jump the shark way, WAY too early. And I've watched every episode of it, too. (Yes, I know, I'm a loser. :D)

I must just run in drastically different circles, then. I can remember-most times being afraid to even admit I watched the show (my friends and casual acquaintances all tend to be sci-fi geeks, so maybe that explains it...) and I would VERY reluctantly admit I liked the show. It was always a thrill to find someone else who liked it.

Actually, I stated this earlier, but I was glad to see this thread crop up-it gave you guys a chance to complain about what even I will admit, even though I enjoyed it, was overkill, and it didn't have to become an issue in the other threads. So thanks for that!

I'll forgive you liking "Friends" for that last remark. Anderson ups your "cool factor" by enough points to overcome "Friends". ;)

I tried to watch a little of it last night, then I wondered why I was bothering... I had nothing invested in this show or its characters (I watched maybe 5 or 10 minutes or so over its entire run) and I didn't really care what happened to them. Maybe I'd have felt differently if I was somehow a regular user...

And part of the "Secret of 'Friends'' Success" is simple (in the eyes of a guy): the show constantly put its female characters in the tightest clothing possible. I often wondered if they were gonna "bust" out on camera one day! You didn't often see women on that show in loose-fitting or unattractive outfits.

Posted by: wsware

Yes it's over.. but will you will see the re-runs from now till the end of time.

If I wanted I think I could catch 3-4 a day on FOX and NBC

So true.

I knew that of course but was trying to enjoy a few days of euphoria since new episodes will be no more.

Back to reality.

Don't watch it.

It bothers me that some TV shows bother so many people. I cannot stand the reality shows but I don't watch them and I ignore the promos. That is why I have Tivo. Everything I want to see is on there and nothing I don't (except commercials which I fastforward over).

I'll troll this thread by saying I like Friends. I did not watch when it first came out but after getting Tivo and running out of other stuff to watch I started watching the syndicated reruns and started getting a chuckle from it. This year was a little stale but I got to care about the characters and wanted to see where they would be taken.

I guess the same could be true of any TV show but I only have so much time so I pick and choose, like I guess most people do. I know some people don't care for Friends or Everybody Loves Raymond, which I also get a chuckle from and started watching in syndication but that is the beauty of Tivo.

I guess I shouldn't have even opened this thread but, what the heck. Venting is good for the soul, no? I'll shut up now.

Posted by: YCantAngieRead

TivoGeezer, if they're gonna wail on someone for trolling in their thread, it's gonna be me, since I've posted three or four times now. So I think you're safe. :D

You know, that guy is surprisingly not open on the whole "him fathering my children" issue. He really should just open up more. :) (How can you NOT like a guy who is incredibly smart AND admits to watching terrible TV?)

Well, I have a feeling that would require Anderson to open up a little more than he's interested in. ;)

I've been a huge Anderson fan since his days on ABC's overnight show "World News Now", which I've been watching since it started with Aaron Brown and Lisa McRee back at the very beginning.

What this has to do with "Friends", I don't know...but since I've threadjacked this far, I might as well finish it!

What it tells me is that, given your other television likes and dislikes, you'd pretty much fit in exceptionally well with all of my friends. They make fun of me for the Friends thing, too, y'know. :D

Posted by: cwerdna

I couldn't care less about Friends either. I think I've seen maybe 1.5 or 2 eps, don't remember. When I got the PTCM about Friends, the thing that followed, and padding, I was like... big deal (although I can understand why they sent it out to everyone).

Posted by: randyf

Well, this thread has convinced me. I've deleted my SP, and REFUSE to watch any new episodes :D

In fact, I'm so ticked off I'm thinking about deleting my FRASIER SP as well. I'm gonna give it one more chance, and then make my decision after Thursday !!

Posted by: HTH

People watch shows they hate so that they can at least not be left out when others discuss them. Don't partake of the common culture and you make yourself an outsider from certain social circles.

So you have to ask yourself, which is more painful: watching the show or being left out of social circles for not watching it? Or, do you really want to be part of the social group if they like a show you hate?

Posted by: star_treking

Me.. I never cared for the friends show from the beginning.

Posted by: Ricks

Never watched a single episode.....
