My HR10-250 was defective

I can't believe it, but I knew that it was bound to happen. I received my receiver yesterday and setup all my wiring to install it. After I installed the receiver, I hooked up my component cables to the receiver and did not get any video. I then tried the S-video cable and did get video.
I thought it might be my cables, so I tested another pair and still did not get video. I then tested the same cables on my DVD player which support component output and that worked fine with both cables. I then reset the HR10-250 and even took out the battery to reset it. I also thought that the HDMI port might think it is on, so I installed that cable and then removed it. My TV does not support HDMI or DVI, so that is not an option for me. I then took it to a friends house to test and the component connections did not work there either.
All in all, I spent 6 hours testing the component output ports and they were defective. I have called Circuity City and am I to return it for my full purchase price including shipping. I just wanted to see if anyone else was having problems. My was made in April 2004 and was manufactured in the USA.

Sorry to hear your sad news. You are not alone- you might want to kill this thread and take your post here . Good luck! I hope you can get another one very soon!

Did you check the menus for an option to turn on that output?

I did post a question asking about the component outputs and what other people with the DVR saw. Everyone stated that they are active all the time and they did not have to turn them on. I also checked the manual and settings within the DVR when I was in S-Video mode and there is also nothing. I have already returned it and will look to getting another one when they are available.

Did you ship your back to CC or return it to the store? I had the same problem as you (see other thread) and I called Directv and they are shipping me a new unit. Takes 7-10 days.

Scott,
I decided to take it back to CC and just get my money back including shipping. I decided that I can wait a few weeks to see if there are any Memorial Day sales or see if the CC site has any more in the coming weeks.
I should have probably called DirecTv, but didn't really want to activate it and wait a week or two for a working one. I didn't want to pay for S-Video quality video when I can already get that. :)

Nomarian,
If your television won't do 480i over DTV component, as is the case on some older televisions (with certain inputs), you won't get any picture over that cable until you use s-video to enter the settings on the Tivo and change to 480p or 1080i, depending on your television.
In another thread, someone returned a perfectly good HD Tivo because they didn't realize they had to change the default settings on the box to get it to work with DTV component input on their television.
What is your DVD player, btw? And did you use the same component input as the DVD player, or a different one?

BKDTV,
Actually, if you look at the front of the box, there is a button that will automatically change the output between 480i, 480p, 780 and 1080. I tried all 4 format and there was never any picture on my component outputs.
I have a 42 inch Panasonic Plasma with a single component input, so I am positive my TV supports the connection. I also have a Sony Progressive DVD player and an Xbox with the component outputs. I did switch the cables from DVD to the HD Tivo and the DVD player always had video output, but the Tivo never did.
I even took it to a friends house where he just bought a new 60 inch LCD projection screen TV and we could not get video from the component outputs. I am sure that the component outputs on my HD Tivo were bad, so I don't feel that I missed something.
