I used to have a DirectTV + Ultimate TV receiver. When mine got killed in a storm, I thought that I would be upgrading by getting a DirecTV + Tivo receiver, mainly due to hype from friends, etc.

One feature I really miss is being able to continue to view the current program no matter what other "maintenance" I was doing. Ultimate TV puts the program in the top right corner in a smaller window and drew menus, etc. in the rest of the screen space. I really hate the overlay of the Tivo guide as I can't view my program while surfing the guide. I also really hate that managing Season Passes, etc. stops the current program.

Is there any chance that such an enhancement is in the works?

I'm with you on this one! Make the menus translucent and keep the audio like on the regular Directv receivers.
