Summer TIVO suggestions??

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Supfreak26

I still have a ton to catch up on my Tivo but I realized last night the majority of the shows in my NP list are season finales. The last thing I want is to open my NP and bring up a blank screen. Please don't make me watch <gasp!> live TV.

I will probably set up some SP's to record some reruns of shows that I haven't had time for lately. Like South Park and Simpsons.

So what's the latest news for new summer shows and what would you recommend I check out during the dog days of summer?

If you like any reality tv, Amazing Race will be back in July.

Big Brother too.

Posted by: mwhip

Chapelle's Show is awesome.

Don't forget FOX is having like 5 or 6 new series in June. Plus Nip/Tuck will be back in July.

Posted by: Incognito

Yeah I would definately grab:

Amazing Race
NIP/TUCK

Best Reality show & one of the best "Dramas" <drama is a crappy word for shows like this> on T.V.

Edit: Doesn't Six Feet Under start up in June on HBO??

The new seasons of Monk and Dead Zone start this summer.

Amazing Race
Nip / Tuck
Joe Schmo II
Last Comic Standing II

"The 4400" on USA looks really cool. Starts July 11th.

Add Big Brother to that list.

I use the summer re-runs to catch shows I chose not to watch first time round. This is how I got hooked on shows such as CSI. I also use the summer to start recording the more educational shows such as Nova and Nature on PBS, and the myriad of shows on TLC and Discovery Channel.

Amazing Race for sure...and if you're like me, and never had HBO, Sex and the City starts up soon on TBS.

Granted, it doesn't have the language and nudity that was on HBO, but I heard it's going to still be pretty funny. I saw a few episodes on HBO whenever I got the chance, and the show was great.

Coupling, on BBC America and some PBS stations.

I also love PBS's NOVA, especially for those days when I'm puttering around the house cleaning or doing laundry. I like listening to science shows much more than having music on in the background.

New season of Stargate as well as the Stargate spinoff Atlantis.

Posted by: dansee

New "Dead Like Me" season coming in July.

Also, BBC America is great during the summer.

And that's how I got hooked on Smallville.

Gotta echo everyone else: Amazing Race and Dead Like Me.

Monk / Amazing Race are two of the best. (for those who watch.. how about Monk ON the Amazing Race? That would be a great show!)

I've also picked up Oblivious on SPIKE a few times as a Tivo suggestion. Pretty funny if you're looking for a diversion.

I didn't realize they were bringing back Joe Schmo. That was an excellent find last year!

Netflix.

:)

Don't forget about the new FX show about firefighters, it's supposed to start after Nip/Tuck is over.

Turn off your TV and go outside!!!:D

Posted by: lajohn27

And after you've been outside and the mosquitos drive you nuts and it's dark and you just wanna watch TV..

Dead Like Me of course.. Six Feet Under is back in June I believe.. and don't forget, ABC will be burning off a bunch of never before seen Drew Carey episodes leading up to the big finale in .. August?

Classic example of a show that overstayed it's welcome I guess.

Does anyone have start dates for these shows? Amazing Race is early July, I know, but when is Joe Schmoe II on?

Anyone know if Playing it Straight is coming back? Loved my trash reality TV... My wife and I had a great time guessing who was straight and who was gay.

Don't forget the Olympics are being held this summer.

Everything previously said in this thread... SFU, Amaz Race, BB5, nip/tuck, Monk, and more.

I'm doing all of that plus I hope to watch the DVDs of Firefly, The Wire Season 1 and Dead Like Me (is that out yet?).

Joe Schmo 2 starts on June 15.

Fox:

The Simple Life 2
The Jury
The Casino (reality show from Burnett)
The Next Great Champ
NorthShore

Great suggestions everyone! Thank you!!

Think I'll check out Monk and definitely Joe Schmoe 2. Most likely I will just get Netflix and watch a bunch of TV show DVD's.

Can't believe all the reality TV shows you guys recommend. Haven't you had enough of that junk yet? ;)

I was thinking of trying to catch "The O.C." over the summer. It didn't appeal to me when it first came out, but has received so much buzz, I thought I would try it out.

When does the new season of MI-5 start?

Has The Wire Season 1 DVD been announced? Just checked the HBO website and the only info I could find was:

02.27.04 | The Wire DVD
Stay tuned for the official DVD release of The Wire from HBO Video. Any copies for sale at this time are not authorized by HBO.

I'm going to "netflix" Alias, and 24. Also, I enjoy the History Channel.

I just started from the beginning last Thursday, when TNT ran the pilot. They're doing two per day, so today episodes 11 and 12 ran. Ten episodes a week, yikes.

I started with Court TV so I'm on episode #33

Posted by: ckelly5

I believe that Coupling Series 4 starts on BBC America June 6th as well...

although no more Jeff, so we'll see how well it holds together...

Is Jeff gone for good? I've seen the first 2 eps already, and in the season opener, they have him on the phone, and then Oliver The Comic Book Guy curiously took his place as the Goofy Guy of the group.

What happened? Jeff was one of the funniest of them all ('Breasts!')!

Posted by: trainman

Wow, nobody's mentioned "Arrested Development" in this thread yet? Fox is supposed to start showing reruns with the pilot episode on Sunday, June 6th (actually, they're also showing the last new episode of the season on the 6th, but if you haven't seen it before, that may not be a good episode to start with).

I agree, he's probably half the reason I watch it. you can probably google for some news about it, but from what I read, he didn't want to be typecast in that role, and decided to get out while the going was good.
