Fraisier Finale (Spoilers)

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I liked it.

In the end what we regret most are the chances we never took.

Am I to understand that he ditched the job in San Francisco to chase after his lady love in Chicago?

That's what I got out of it Gray.

I really enjoyed the finale - excellent episode.

Very good finale.

Finally a good one.

Excellent finale. The end was not at all what I expected.

Posted by: michad

The end was in keeping with the show....smart.

I so wanted them to concoct a reason for him to walk into the bar in Boston, while that would have been a good ending, in my opinion, they impressed me.

Probably :)

If it got picked up, and assuming Laura Linney didn't want to do a series, they could just as easily say "It didn't work out," and go on and do the series "Frasier the San Francisco television star."

This was really nice. The series (and us) was so fortunate that Christopher Lloyd and Joe Keenan came back to write the final season. I thought some of the slapstick stuff, while mostly deft, was a bit of a forced attempt to recapture some of the screwball magic of the series' best seasons. But the emotional parts were heartfelt without being maudlin, there were some genuine laughs (when Niles came out of the vet's office with the monkey, to the stares of the others, I had a great laugh -- and that was just a throwaway moment), and we got a final farewell to some of the great supporting characters, particularly Bebe. All in all, a really nice finale. Well done.

Very good, very good.

Makes me want to start TiVoing the reruns to watch a lot of the stuff again.

This show never dumbed it down (even when it wasn't as good as it was in the beginning and got that way again at the end).

Great end to a solid show. One of the best finales ever done.

Posted by: appleye1

I actually liked the clip show better than the finale. Made me wish I had been a more faithful viewer over the years. I've missed a lot of funny stuff.

Posted by: Todd

Excellent finale! The end was totally predictable though...

Posted by: ronsch

I also liked it a lot. By the end I had even forgotten all about the fact that he was telling the story in flashback.

I loved the remark Frasier made about it being hotter than the ninth circle of hell just before Bebe waltzes in the door.

And to top it all off, the program times as listed by NBC were spot on. The finale started at 8:54 and ER started precisely at 9:59.

I haven't seen frasier in a while. I had forgotten what a funny character Bebe was. And David Hyde Pierce's collapse after lamaze breating was hilarious.

Posted by: ScottE22

I didn't watch much Frasier over the years, but I enjoyed the finale... Unlike some series finales it pretty much felt like "just another episode" of the show.

OTOH, I was a very loyal viewer of Friends for all 10 years, and while I liked the finale, it just "felt" like the last episode...

I don't know how to put it any better than that -- but GREAT show! Maybe I'll start TiVo-ing some of the re-runs I never saw...

Posted by: Gunnyman2k3

Is there any hope at all of David Hyde Pierce getting a TV show?
His comic timing is amazing.

Posted by: GoodSpike

Well, now we know why Anthony LaPaglia cut his hair in one of the recent Without a Trace episodes.

I really enjoyed the episode although the scene where Daphne delivered in the vet hospital was a bit much... They kept the finale true to the series, didn't focus on Frasier's Chicago love - which although I would have liked to have seen, should NOT have been the focus of this episode - and made it a natural ending for the series as Frasier moves into yet another stage of his life.

Glad to see Bebe. Wish there'd been more Roz this episode.

Now I'm regretting Niles and Daphne got together. Would loved to have seen a "Niles" show, but don't want to see one with both of them. Maybe David Hyde Pierce will get his own show as another character...

I enjoyed it... although I need to re-watch it since I wasn't *really* paying attention during the show.

Good to see Jennifer Beals again ! haven't seen much of her on TV lately ..

Bravo to the cast and crew of "Frasier" for an excellent finale.

I was hoping he might end up back in Boston, mostly because a part of me is never going to let go of "Cheers". Plus, at times during the series it seemed he might end up back with Lilith.

The wife and I said the same thing.

I was surprised that he didn't get with Laura Linney in the end. I thought that would have been the predictable ending. But they left it open. I will miss this show. It is hard to find a good well thought out sitcom on TV these days. It seems to be a dying breed. All I got left is Scrubs.

For those of you who really like David Hyde Pierce's commedic timing you should see the movie "Mating Habits of the Earthbound Human". He's the narrator not a character but his dry delivery is too funny.

The movie is done like David is an alien reporting on the mating habbits of humans. It followes a couple (Carmen Electra being one of them) around from meeting in a bar all the way through having kids.

I thought it was hilarious when I caught it on cable but I havn't been able to find it since.

I forget if it was the national or local pre-show show, but one of them indicated that they'd heard about Seattle coffee bars and decided that would be a better meeting place than a bar. Until they said that it never really occurred to me that particular part of the show was particularly a Seattle thing. Despite their attempts to be relatively true to Seattle, they did mess up quite a bit with little things.

I haven't seen it, but I believe she is one of the stars of "The L-Word" on Showtime. I guess it's a Sex and the City-type show about lesbians in LA.

I found this finale to be most excellently done, definitely better than the Friends finale. I agree with whoever said that this may be the best finale I've seen.

1) The humor was up to usual Frasier standards (as opposed to Friends, where the humor in the finale didn't seem to the usual par)

2) At the same time of being a humorous episode they were able to provide closure for all the actors

3) The end came as a complete shocking surprise to me and left a feeling after the show ended that that end was right. Unexpected but pleasing and satisfying.

4) I like that the nerd in Frasier's office finally got to kiss Roz. He definitely took advantage of that opportunity.

Wow, from all the prior glowing posts, I'm in a serious minority I guess.

I thought this was one of the worst episodes of network television I've ever seen. The slapstick seemed forced, the heart-pulls seemed forced, the acting seemed forced. And I saw very little of the wit that is the hallmark of Frasier.

Admittedly, I've never been the world's biggest fan of the show, but I've always found the show likable enough.

I'm glad you all enjoyed it so much.

After Gunther finally got a kiss from Rachel, it would have been quite a letdown if Noel (Nole, whatever) didn't get to kiss Roz.

Where was Bulldog?

Jennifer Beals was in the show? I must have dozed off.

Very first scene and very last scene...she was his seat-mate on the airplane...he recounted the story to her (flashback show) and then wrapped it up at the end when they touched down in Chicago...

and man is she hot in The L Word...wow...

Posted by: dmlove51

I didn't see it or record it (had to watch the Sharks game live - great game), so can someone tell what happened?

Posted by: grecorj

It's on again tonight, Friday, May 14, 8-9:04PM ET, if you missed it last night.

I think I know the problem and why I didn't recognize her: I hear Jennifer Beals and I think chair, hair, water... not much else.:p

Posted by: midas

Favorite line of the night had to be Niles describing the game of "I can reach it from here."

Posted by: tomo_kun

Im still shocked at the ending.

My favorite quote: "DONT SAY ANYTHING!" (after looking at the monkey)

Posted by: efilippi

We watched the finale before the clip show. And my wife noticed that the guy who picked up the old chair at the very end of the show was the same guy who delivered it in the first show.

Very nice touch.

Yes, but she looks so much better now than she did then. Some women need to grow into their looks. She is one of them. Better looking everytime I see her. Might make me watch the l_word.

The ending was perfect. We get to decide what happens. Courageous of them to do that instead of taking the easy way and leading us by the nose.

For me, it was:

Niles: [looking in from the balcony at his wife and baby] Aren't those two beautiful?

Martin: And they'll stay that way as long as she keeps breastfeeding.

Finally watched this last night, and I agree that it was one of the better finales I've seen. Better than the Friends finale by a mile.

I interpreted the ending that he was going to Chicago to take a stab, but that he was still moving to SF. That was part of the ending's class, though -- leaving it open to so many possibilities instead of wrapping it up in a dumbed-down bow.

I enjoyed watching it w/my GF and recognition-yelling "Jennifer Beals!" and later she did the same with "Jason Biggs!" Maybe that's just a reflection of having a GF six years younger, however...... ;) Frasier always did a nice job of doing subtle stunt-casting, IMO....easier to do when you can just make them callers to a radio show. :)

Martin's lines about the monkey "You were no peach at that age" and the breastfeeding were classic. We had just gotten back from a beach trip w/2 couples, both of the other women were still breastfeeding. Gotta love the timing there.

An odd thing from the beach trip, though -- we were rained in at one point and TVLand was showing "48 hours of Cheers." I caught part of a rerun where Frasier was describing his childhood, as an only child of a now-deceased scientist father. Of course, I believe an early episode of Frasier made a nice in-joke about the rewrite, where a Cheers character (Sam?) tells Martin "I heard you were dead."
