IKE: Countdown to D-DAY

Some of you History Buffs might like this. A&E is doing a Memorial Day movie on IKE. Tom Selleck plays IKE. I've really grown to enjoy Selleck in westerns -- I'm sure he'll do a good job with IKE.

Here's the info.

It was hard enough to adapt to Selleck without the moustache. Now he's going to lose the hair?

Seriously, though, this does sound interesting; thanks for the tip!

Tom Sellek as Ike. NO WAY!!!

I liked the min-series that featured Robert Duvall as Ike.

Anyone watch the whole thing? I caught the first 20 minutes and TiVo'd the rest. It looked really good.

I've tivoed it, but won't get to watch it for a while.

It was pretty good. It showed a lot of the politics Ike was up against. If you are expecting an action movie though, it is not.

.....like a history happy meal....

Kept my 17 yr old son and I interested, but barely. If we had had to watch it live I don't think we would have made it through the 1st commercial break without looking around to see if we could do better.

We both really enjoy WW2 history stuff, but this seemed just a little too simplified for our taste. Amazing how in EVERY scene either Ike, Churchill, or someone else was smoking. Probably how it was, but very different from today.

EDIT

...kept my 17 yr. old son and ME interested...

This was very dull in my opinion. Maybe a story that holds interest for only the most devoted of WWII historians or Eisenhower devotees. Eisenhower deserves consideration as the greatest man of the 20th Century in my opinion but I hope he was more dynamic than this movie makes him appear. Tom Selleck was competent in the role but the political wranglings seem so lame compared to the media induced frenzy about everything political we are faced with today. It does make it seem that Eisenhower was certainly the right man in the right place at the right time and I think history will show him to be among our greatest leaders. Only Washington and Eisenhower made the transition from great General to great President.

I am watching the 2 hour A&E biography on Eisenhower now and it provides more details of interest to me.
