Dick Van Dyke Show reunion

Did anyone else record this? I tried watching it but couldn't take more than 15 minutes of it. There's nothing worse than outdated comedy with a over used laff track.

Mary Tyler Moore looked disturbing. On the show she's teaching ballet and looks like a bag of bones. Her plastic surgery has left her mouth looking like a fish mouth. She can barely talk her face is pulled back so far.

Well, it's been 40 years! It's amazing as many of them are still alive as that!

I watched it...expected to hate it. Didn't.

Definitely didn't LOVE IT, that's for sure. But it was moderately nostalgic for me since I grew up on the reruns.

The Carol Burnett thing the next night was better.

I had it, but deleted it. You wouldn't have wanted it with the Nebraska Primary returns in the way anyway.

Ewwwwwww. Hard to imagine how that much talent could make such a bad show.

I agree that the laugh track was downright offensive. I don't know how I pushed myself to watch the whole thing.

MY GOD!! THE PHONE RANG! MARY HAD TO STOP DANCING TO ANSWER IT! HOW UPROARIOUSLY FUNNY!!!!!

I had to put my funny bone back in line with a good serving of Fawlty Towers.

You can't go home again.

This was truly awful. We really don't need a show of old clips for a show that's never actually gone off the air. Some were funny, some were so-so. But the self-indulgent musical clips were the worst. I hated those when the show first aired. And I FF through them in reruns.

I just started tivoing the original eps on TV land.

Damn! MTM was hot back then!

Yes she was. Unfortunately she's now 66 years old and still thinks she's hot.

Im glad I missed this travesty.

The jokes were lame and the timing wasn't there. When they showed clips from the old show, the new stuff paled badly.

I was disappointed in it. The idea of seeing them all in character is an interesting one, but it just wasn't funny enough--plus I had a hard time looking at Rose Marie. The difference between Millie (short old grey-haired lady) and Laura (tall, brown hair, still looking somewhat young) was bizarre. MTM's face-lift is a little off, but when aren't they?

Why was there no mention of Mel in the credits? Rob's brother is such a small character compared to him, I was surprised he was included.

I did think it was kinda silly that Laura would be opening a dance studio in her late-60's. And how much must that Manhattan Condo/Studio they were living in cost? Oh, and one more--Richie bought the house from the people who bought the house from his parents, yet all the furniture/art work is unchanged for 40 years? Oh, and lose Ray Romano!

I'm done now.

Nothing at the beginning, which I thought was quite a slight for Richard Deacon. But his name was at the end along with all the others who have died.

So disappointing. And I forgot to set up the recording for the Carol Burnett special the next night. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

They are repeating the Carol Burnett special on Saturday the 22nd.

I just watched it. The modern-day-in-character stuff was so unnecessary (and unfunny). Stacy and Millie getting together? Please.

They should have just gotten together as actors and reminisced with lots of clips.

That Carol Burnett stuff is still funny, after all these years.

I read an interview with DVD, and he said they'd talked about a reunion show for a while, but always rejected it because they didn't want to sit around and lamely reminisce about old clips. Then they came up with the idea to do a regular episode and thought that was a good idea.

Then he admitted that they probably waited 10 years too long, what with so many dead and decrepit (my word) castmembers. I'd have to agree with him.

I am one of the biggest fans of the Dick Van Dyke show and even I had a hard time sitting through this.

The concept and plot were really lame! The laugh track atrocious! Having Millie and Stacey meet in a supermarket?

And where the heck did the hatred of Alan come from. He was always a egotistical tyrant on the original show but Rob and Sally spoke of him like the devil incarnate.

And lastly Dick was the ONLY one on the show who still had the acting ability to make me believe he was an older version of the original character. He still had some of the moves and speech patterns down.

Really, a sad showing for those of us who still love the shows.

I think it is time to catch up and buy the next couple seasons on DVD!

Actually, I thought the Millie character out-acted all of them!

I haven't read this thread but I watched that reunion show and it was terrible. The revisited shows are usually just awful but that one was extraordinarily bad. Carl Reiner, Dick Van Dyke, Rose Marie and Mary Tyler Moore surely had to know how bad that was. The original series was very good by any sitcom standard. Maybe we will never see another and can forgive that one mistake.

I actually thought Jerry Van Dyke had some funny lines. Other than that, lame.

I would have liked to see them bounce some quarters off MTM's face.
