I want to know if comcast will show this event, dish and direct tv will show for $179. What about comcast?
Posted by: walkerism
I can't wait to see this. I guess I will have to shell out $179. I think fox sports world will show most of the games on tape delay. Let's go France.
Posted by: jfjellstad
Spain and Holland looks really good this year, and Spain is basically playing at home. Although, France was undefeated in the preliminaries.

France? FRANCE??
Please support a real team :)

P.S. England all the way baby :D

I believe Comcast and other cable operators will show this on InDemand PPV for the same price as D* and DISH.
Go England!!!

If they not i will switch to Directv!
Go Germany!

Lets hope this time round Cox / InDemand remeber that from the quaterfinals forward can go to extra time and/or penalties .......
... unlike last time .......... when they cut off the end of the match ..... not happy !!!!!
Posted by: walkerism
Anyone knows fox sports world schedule yet? I'm debating whether to pay the $179 or watch it all on tape delay. Any Hispanic or broadcast TV coverage?
Go FRANCE!
Posted by: dreamseason
www.soccertv.com is probably the best website to check, but they don't have any info on FSW and rebroadcasts.
My favorite way to watch during college in Boston was going to an Irish pub for breakfast and the game....mmmm, grease.

I always thought it sounded like "Eng-ger-land!"... but it probably depends on the regional accent :-)

go portugal =)

Is there any more information available on this? Do you have to have VOD in order to get it on Comcast? Is it available in all locations?
(Edited: I just realized it said it will be on InDemand PPV - that's different from VOD??)
Posted by: jfjellstad
France won all their qualifying games, I think the only country to do so.
England has a good team, but if you saw last years Champions match between Real Madrid and Manchester United (basically, a Spanish team vs a English team), the ManUnited seem intimidated (at least the first match in Madrid).
I don't think Portugal nor Spain will win. Although they have great individual players, and great attackers and midfielders, their defence usually suffers.
France has great attackers in Henry, midfielders in Zidane (world's best player), and defenders in Desailly. Arsenal is basically a French team and they have dominated the English league.

My auto-recording wish list for "UEFA" just picked up Denmark vs Italy on FSW @ 11am Mon the 14th; so looks good for FSW replaying all/most games! :) Not too long a delay since tournament starts on the 12th, I think.
(The WL is usually for Champion's League & UEFA Cup, getting "UEFA Euro 2004" is a bonus.)
Posted by: zhurik
I paid $179 to watch it on demand. Also you can watch Euro 2004 on your Pc for $15.
Can't wait till it starts.

According to http://www.soccertv.com/:
FOX Sports World (US) and FOX Sports en Espanol will air 5 first-round matches live (Denmark vs Italy, Croatia vs France, Italy vs Sweden, Switzerland vs France, Denmark vs Sweden), all 4 quarterfinals and both semifinals via 5-day delay, and the final via 3-day delay.

I'm still debating whether $179 is worth it. I love France, but unless I can get my room mate to pay halp, then I guess I guess FSW will have to do. I wouldn't mind paying if HDNET or HD pay per view were showing the games in true HD. I watch MLS on HDNET all the time. Haiti (My home team) Vs. USA was a great game a couple of months back. I WANT MORE FOOTBALL IN HD.

which lets you enjoy video highlights, news, features and exclusive interviews from UEFA EURO 2004™. You will also get access to live audio commentaries from all 31 matches of the final tournament, as well as many other great audio features and interviews.
It says nothing about live video from every game. Maybe i'm just not seeing it.

Thanks for the link Zhurik, but I agree with Applied, it looks like they only do video highlights after each game.
I'm assuming BBC Radio5 will be streaming audio of at least some of the games

Its only 14.95, You can try it.
I was watching last season Uefa Champions League through uefa.com and i paid only $40 and i was able watch every single game in about 10 hours delay.

I just stumped up the $23 ppv to watch the England - France match.
I have to say, Setanta totally screwed up the broadcast in the first half - the pre-match introduction sound kept cutting out, they played music over the pre-match interviews, the pre match interviews were shown in the wrong aspect ratio. Then during the first half of the match, gold vertical bars kept appearing at the edges of the screen, squeezing and elongating the picture. These would hang around for a few minutes, then disappear, and then a few minutes later would be back again.
oh yes, and if I pay $23 to watch 1 game, I DON'T expect to have to watch adverts!!!!
As for the game - the first 90 minutes were wonderful. I can't say much about the following injury time - I was having a nervous breakdown!!!!
Go ENGLAND

I paid $179 for all games and guess what? I WAKE UP TURN MY TIVO FOR GAME ENGLAND VS FRANCE AND ALL I CAN SEE IS !BLACK SCREEN WITH "TO ORDER PLEASE PRESS OK"! IT WAS SAME THROUGH ENTIRE GAME
I WAS SO ANGRY AND STILL DISAPPOINTED!!!

I DON'T KNOW MAYBE SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH TIVO?

You might want to call Comcast again and check that when you paid your $179 that it included ALL Cable boxes at your address. It sounds like they only activated one box to receive the programs.
It's not going to be a problem with the TiVo. You have evidence to show that Tivo changed to the correct channel, and recorded whatever was there
I hope you get it sorted in time for the next game

OK, I used to be a soccer player but I'll have to admit I've never been and adimant spectator. I was FLOORED however to see that DTV would charge $179 to watch all matches! That's insane. Are you guys really willing to shell out nearly $200 just to see that live instead of delayed?
I thought they were nuts but I guess there is a demand.

Its airing on channel 613 for me which is fox sports southwest I think. I just did a keyword search on euro 2004. I can't say for certain if its all the games or what. I tried to watch it in my home theater last night, and blown up the picture was not very good. Low detail. How does it look on the PPV?

Go to http://www.soccertv.com/ and see the detail under "Euro 2004". You can't see delayed ALL matches.

I paid for the package and am enjoying the tournament so far, setanta sucks though, shame that we get shafted like this in the US, in Canada they get all the games for free. And they wonder why soccer doesn't catch on here... Oh well, Go sweden!

OK, so I can only see 17 matches, that's probably much more than my attention span will allow. And since I don't care who wins I don't mind watching delayed.
I sure hope the picture quality is better for you guys what paid for it cuase I'd be pissed off if I paid $179 for the garbage I'm seeing on Fox Sports.
Can anyone with a big screen who paid for the PPV comment on the picture quality? The reason I say big screen is because I really didn't notice on my 32".
Posted by: BBQ Chicken
Picture quality is very good on the PPV

I bought England/France on D* PPV. Face it, Zidane did nothing for 90 minutes, but that was a gorgeous free kick. And anyone can score a penalty. (Except Becks ;))
The other games don't interest me much until the group stage is done, although yesterday's Germany/Holland match would have been worth a look too.
One thing that was really funny to my ears though was what incredible homers the ITV announcers were. They make John Sterling and Charlie Steiner
(Yankees Radio announcers) seem objective!

That's pretty common with English sports presenters, they are just echoing what their viewers want to hear. But be fair - when Zidane scored, they did shout Brilliant - and it was.
When the Free Kick was given in the closing stages, I was already out of my chair in horror, but the calming voice of Sir Bobby Robson saying "England have only to weather this one and they are home and dry". And you know, it worked - I was totally calm after that. well, for the next 10 seconds anyway!!!!!

and I've been reading a lot of threads on here. I'm still deciding on what player to get but I've purchased the entire Eurocup package from PPV since we are very passionate about football.
What I wanted to know from some of the folks on here, sorry for the n00bness, but i read a thread on here that the Tivo is not taping the matches? My main reason to get the Tivo immediately is to tape these games since my VCR is comeplete shite and I'd like to keep the games for a very long time.
Any comments on my questions would be highly appreciated! thanks agian.

You'll be fine. You just need to ensure the PPV channel has a tick by it in the Channels you Receive panel. (By default it will be inactive)
For Comcast Cable in my area that is channel 801. You should be able to set up a season pass for all the games. Check the to do list to make sure they are scheduled to record

Anyone who ordered the Euro 2004 package from DirecTV not have the games show today? I have recorded every match so far this tournament just fine, today both pregame shows recorded ok, but the actual game was just 45 mins of the DirecTV logo, who do I complain to about this? DirecTV, Setanta, someone else? I want a refund. I am so pissed.
edit: i'll add that I ordered the package by remote the first matchday, all the games so far have worked on the DirecTivo that I ordered it on, but the others ones don't get the games.. I don't have it hooked to the phone line, so could that be why it isn't working now? I logged into my DirecTV account and the Euro 2004 subscription doesn't show up on the bill. Should I just re-order it through the website or what?

I ordered the package through their web site prior to the tournament and have had no problem so far.

well... after several hours of fooling with the TiVo I spoke to the folks at TiVo to find out that my dish receiver is too old and it wont change the channels from the tivo to the dish receiver. so now I have to program the dish network and just leave the tivo on to tape it. I'll be purchasing a new receiver in order for the TiVo to work properly.

OK, about the actual games, can somebody tell me if the game between Denmark and Sweden was fixed? The result seems a little too convenient considering the outcome.
Posted by: phodg
Didn't look like it to me. There were some good goals scored. Plus, the UEFA guys are saying they are happy with the way the game was played. Italy should perhaps worry about the games they didn't win rather than about someone else's draw.

I agree, if you look at Italy's performance in the whole of the first round, they shouldn't feel peeved that they didn't qualify, they weren't playing like prospective European Champions.
If you put yourself in a position where you rely on other results, then you've only yourself to blame.
Holand however, they were lucky

them and spain looked horrible. righfully deserved to go home. if you dont score goals then you're not gonna win. Period.

Actually, Italy wouldn't have been able to continue even with a 1-1 draw in the Denmark/Sweden game. They needed Denmark or Sweden to win, because they were unable to win with at least two goals. Note also that actually scored their second goal in the fourth minute of penalty time.
The Guardian had an interesting article about it:
"The reason Italy have been pressuring Uefa over the past few days, to the point where Uefa allowed Italian TV two extra camera positions behind each goal (the Italians wanted seven extra), is because if Italy had been in the same position no one would have been surprised at a 2-2 result.
Only 44 days ago Italian police raided 12 clubs across Serie A, B and C during an investigation into match-fixing, shortly before which the Siena goalkeeper Generoso Rossi walked out of the club. Siena were high-profile suspects. "
http://football.guardian.co.uk/euro...1245247,00.html
Some Italian reporters actually broke into the Danish camp and sent a fax to the Swedish team before the game...

If the English can beat Portugal, I don't think they will have much trouble with the Dutch (presuming they beat Sweden). I mean, the Netherlands are good, but they had lots of problems with Germany and Latvia (even with the win). With Latvia, they really had the referee with them (they never should have gotten the penalty kick that gave them the first goal, and Ruud van Nistleroy was clearly offside for the second goal)
On top of that, there is alot of infighting between the Dutch right now, while the English seem to really work together.

Yes, I listened to it on radio5 live. It sounded pretty tense. I haven't seen a replay of the goal that was dissallowed yet - FSW didn't show it? Was it a good referee decision?

No, the fact that they scored first, that was their curse. When the english team was forced to attack, after over 80 minutes in the defence, they actually scored (twice, counting the annulment).

the games were not broadcasy in hd though are they?
I know in the uk there were a lot of complaints about the bars down the side of the picture, that was in the 1st day's games, and got resolved, but not a widescreen picture as far as I can see.
