Gardening Show Recommendations?

I was wondering if anyone could make a suggestion for some good shows that teach about gardening.

I'm looking for something that teaches the whats and whys to it, not necessarily how to design a flower bed or landscaping. I guess something like the "Good Eats" cooking show.

So far, I've found Gardening By The Yard with Paul James. It's fun and informative. Was wondering about other possible candidates.

Paul James in the best one on TV, IMO. He speaks in plain terms, about the stuff that the average joe would like to know (not exotic plants you'll never own or projects you'll never do).

Whatever you do, stay clear of the show with Gary whatshisname (young, dark hair). Listening to him is like listening to Ben Stein in Ferris Bueller. Yeah Gary, curve the edges of your planting areas instead of a straight line - we get it already.

I like "Victory Garden" when it comes on PBS. Lots of cool ideas and interesting things to grow.

For what it's worth...
I'm closing on my very first house soon and was interested in home improvement type shows. The TiVo was a great source because all I had to do was:
Pick Programs to Record -> Search by Title -> Interests -> Home Improvement.

That gave me a nice list of shows, many of which I had never heard of.

Instead of Home Improvement, try Home & Garden.

It may be hit or miss for many of them but a one time recording of shows that look interesting to try out might yield some surprises.

It's a bit different than what you requested, but I'd recommend you check out Ground Force on BBC America. You pick up some thing about gardening, some tips on design, etc... but mostly it is about people who truely enjoy gardening. It's really a fun show to watch.

They've stopped making new ones (or actually, they have continued the show after the original host left) but they rerun them all the time.
