Heat/Noise considerations with upgraded A drive

I just upgrade my Hughes SD-DVR40 by replacing the A drive with a drive I had from an Series 1 Tivo - a Maxtor 200GB 7200RPM drive. Now I have seen a significant jump in temperature difference from 41 degrees to 52 degree celcius. I know that this is within the normal range of the TiVo operating temperature, but I would like to cool my system down to reduce the chances of the drive prematurely failing due to higher temperatures.

I have looked at weaknees and haven't decided if I like the quiter fan (does it draw as much air as the stock fan) and what the power requirements (how much power does the powersupply provide) there are for adding a 2nd fan.

Also, since my new drive is significantly louder that the stock drive what has been successfuly employed to reduce the noise. I know that there is something called Magic Fleece (http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=994) or Melamine that you can put in a PC to reduce noise, but it looks like it would add insulation that would increase the internal temperature.

To wrap up: What is a good cooling solution, what is possible with cooling with the TiVo power supply, and what is possible from a noise reduction standpoint other than replacing the drive with a quiter, cooler, and more practical drive. :)

Thanks, Chris

For maximum cooling, we actually recommend the TwinBreeze with the bracket fan, and leaving your stock fan in place. The replacement for the case fan is a bit slower (and therefore much quieter) but if noise takes a backseat to temperature in your situation, then you should leave that fan and just use the new bracket fan in addition.

This was designed with airflow surrounding two drives - that's how it was engineered and tested. With an open drive bay, your results will be different, but we've heard anecdotally that there is still a significant difference in cooling.
