Before Installing a replacement drive - do I need to.....

...complete guided setup on my current drive (that I'll be replacing>?)

I'm replacing the HD in my TiVo (S2, Sony SVR-3000) later today and I need to find out if this is okay to do.

My current drive has not completed guided setup (due to not having a land-line phone). Is it okay to accomplish this with the new drive once it's installed?

I understand I'll have to "dial-in" the first time regardless of which drive....and I can do that at work later tonight.

Thanks

Mike

Nope - your drive can be pre-Guided Setup and the backup/restore will still work just fine. You'll be just where you left off.

Thanks for the super-quick reply Michael!

The replacement drive I ordered from you guys (Weakness) yesterday morning just arrived (overnight shipping) and I'm about to begin the install process. Thanks for the quick shipping as well!

You can do it over the network in one way: with a wired ethernet connection and a router set to support DHCP. If you have that, you can use the dialing prefix of:

,#401

and the unit will seek an IP address from the router, and dial-ins will be fast.

I didn't really understand before that it was our kit - I thought you were doing the backup/restore. But in any event, even if you had set up your drive, when you put our "replace" kit in, you'd have to redo Guided Setup.

Thanks again Michael!

I have the kit installed now and it is going through the process of "Clearing and deleting everything..." right now (as described in your easy-to-follow instructions).

This drive is already way quieter than the old one it is replacing. Which is just another big plus (in addition to more storage) that you guys provide.
