TiVo Outside Of USA

I moved from the USA to the Netherlands and brought my Tivo SVR2000 with me. When I try to start it, it tries to make a call in the USA but fails of course. It won't go any further. I was hoping to use this as only a digital VCR and not deal with tV programing. I know there are hacks but don't know if they pertain to this situation.
Anyone have any ideas on how to get this up and running. I just can't get past the call screen.

Was it manufactured before Oct 2001? If so then you can live with the nags, or look for the hack to disable them, if Oct2001 and later, you are nearly SOL. You could set up a serial PPP connection co all home, if you don't have ethernet on it..

How do you plan to get programs recorded onto your Tivo? You will not be able to record any over-the-air or cable channels because the video standards are different (PAL in Europe, NTSC in US). Do you have some other way to make recordings in Europe?

If you have broadband, and are somewhat computer savvy, you could add TurboNet and let it dial in via the internet. Won't get you accurate guide data, but it would be able to dial in.

The Netherlands uses the NTSC video standard so the video recorder should work as far as I know. As indicated if it is an early series 1, it should work well as a dummy DVR. Let us know the manufacture date and subscription status and we can give you some idea of expected functionality.

Most European countries use the PAL standard but The Netherlands is an NTSC country. Here is a list of the NTSC countries:

The Netherland Antilles does, not the Netherlands in Europe (AKA Holland), in which case the Aussies have developed the means to use a TiVo with PAL (or get a UK Tivo).

Sorry Chris, you're wrong. Holland is a PAL country, just like most of Europe. France is the odd exception with their SECAM standard.

You are right. My friend in the Netherlands must have a multi-standard VCR so I am mistaken. Multi-standard VCRs are probably more common in that part of the world. A second glance at the list shows the Netherland Antilles, not the Netherlands so Carribean islands use NTSC. Thanks for setting me straight so the only thing that TiVo will be any good for is playing previously made recordings on a multi-standard or NTSC monitor.
