Freezing during live/Welcome screens... conspiracy?

Not really a conspiracy, but over the past week I've had a number of occasions where I've found my DTV DVR40 frozen either on the Welcome screen or during live TV. I've owned the receiver (+ a new added drive) for 3 months without any problems until now.

Apparently I'm not the only one, either. I've seen a number of other posts about people having the same problem.

It's difficult for me to believe that I have a drive problem with 2 new drives, or that others are having the same issue in the same timeframe.

Are others having this issue and not posting about it? Can you provide some data if you are?

I'm running 3.1.1c which came in a few weeks ago. My case temp is ~48C.

I too have been having the same freezing problem over the last week or two, and now my machine won't boot up anymore. I can't get it past the 'Welcome, powering up' screen.

My stand-alone series 2 TiVo IS older than yours (bought it in December 2002) so possible my hard drive just went bad? But do find it odd that many people are complaining of the same problem lately. Does anyone know if there is some larger problem?

I do remember there being a spike in "dead drive" complaints after the first software upgrade years ago on the Series 1s (like from 1.3 to 2.0). Don't know if they ever "proved" cause and effect.
