Line of Fire back on??

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: jennifer8

I'm a little confused. I was just browsing through my To Do list on the TIVO when I noticed that Line of Fire is scheduled to be on on Sunday 5/30 at 9 and 10 PM. I guess I never deleted my season pass when this show came off the air.

There is no mention of this on abc.com. I thought this show was cancelled and not coming back.

I thought this was the best new show! Are they just teasing me with bringing back two episodes and then gone for good.

Posted by: speedy4022

yeah I think these are the last 2 episodes and then the show is gone for good.

Posted by: hawkamer

Actually there are two more epiosdes in the can, but ABC is not planning to air them. Too bad, I enjoyed the show.

Posted by: c3po33

This and Wonderfalls were 2 of my favorite shows this year and both were cancelled!

Posted by: Rob Helmerichs

Yeah, this was the two-part season finale; they skipped the two episodes immediately preceding.

Posted by: hawkamer

There was a promo for this during Alias last night, and they referred to it as a two-hour movie event.

Posted by: mitkraft

Man I love this place! Thanks a bunch jennifer8 for posting this. I was really bummed that this show got canned. It was shapping up to be one the best dramas ever. I'll be glad to at least get a season finalie type closure from it even if it is a cliff hanger.

Thanks!

ABC never should have cancelled this show. Should have gave it more time to build. No wonder they are in 'last' place.

Line of Fire was only meant as a short - run filler while NYPD Blue was on their mid-season hiatus.

Posted by: mitkraft

Mid season filler? I haven't heard that. Thats a pretty heavy production with a decently heavy cast for a mid season replacment.

Posted by: Rob Helmerichs

It was put in as a limited-run series with the potential to become a regular series if ratings permitted--which they didn't.

It does seem kind of odd that they abandoned it with only four episodes to go, however. They must be really desperate to fill airtime now!

Posted by: jennifer8

Well I saw the commercial last night that this is a two hour movie special and it is now showing up on abc.com.

Well at least I get two more hours of Line of Fire before its gone. Thanks for filling me in on the details and I'm sure we'll discuss this after Sunday !!

There's a story in the New York Times about the airing of the last two episodes:

(warning: minor spoilers)

Just watched this last night. Damn. I am so pissed they are done with the series. Especially with the last minute of the show. Leaves a GREAT opening for a 2nd season. Oh well...

I liked the show in normal airing versus movie mode..

Posted by: Nightfall

We had a HUGE storm roll through and I missed the last 2 minutes or so. Can someone give me a spoiler to the last 5 minutes of the show and what happened?

Posted by: daperlman

I had actually never watched it until those two. What a steaming pile of crap that show is.

Posted by: NatasNJ

SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The last 5 minutes...
The little girl lived. Should be fine.

Van Doren went to get Cohen's daughter out of harms way (since the bad guy was going after all the children of the FBI people that put him away)
She saw him about to shot Cohens son and Van Doren drove full stem into the car the guy was shooting from. She then gets out and kills him when he say he has nothing to lose and goes for his gun.

Malloy's beaten wife asks to talk to Cohen and says she will tell him anything about her husband she wants. She turned rat after her husband blamed her for getting raped and beaten.

In the last two episodes (the final) they succeeded in turning a reasonably interesting cops & bad guys show into a divorced girls with kids and guns and badges politically correct piece of crap.

See my sig.

Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)

After watching the first part of this weekend first episode, I can see why the network dropped it. Boy was that a painful change.

Wow, that poor little girl. First she gets kidnapped and then in another episode she gets shot.

I found it interesting because I've been around Richmond enough to recognize some of the shots, especially from the pilot. After that I don't know how much they were shooting in Richmond.

Of course, anyone around here will tell you that organized crime isn't Richmond's crime problem.

The show ranged from decent to pretty good, and much better than some of the other stuff out there. Sorry to see it go.

I agree. They fall over themselves to find another "reality" show when they have a diamond in the rough with this show.

Maybe somebody'll get a clue and bring back the show.

I can only hope.

Somehow I doubt that ABC will ever get a clue. First they cancel the only reality show that was any good (The Mole) due to poor ratings caused by their own scheduling screwups, and then they cancelled this show. Maybe to edgy for primetime ABC. Someone like FX should pick it up.

Posted by: c3po33

Just saw both parts last night. Great show though as someone said better in its 1 hour format. Stupid ABC for getting rid of this great show!!!

Posted by: dtle

I liked the earlier episodes of the series, because it had alot more interaction between the FBI and the Malloys. But later on, even in the finale, the two plots are separate. With a few exceptions, the non-Malloy plot was boring.

Posted by: mask2343

Damn, Malloys wife talking to the Feds. And we're gonna miss it. :(

Posted by: MacThor

Yeah, I loved the ending there. Completely caught me by surprise, even though I knew something had to come from them being in the same hospital. But couldn't Roy supply them with more information than the wife anyway?

I still think having the little girl as a hostage and a gunshot victim in the same season was too much. They could have accomplished most of the same with the agent getting shot herself, save the contrived "car wreck" takedown of the shooter. Paige Van Doren, brings down all the baddies in two days! Super rookie female Fed!

It was obvious the original prime suspect was a red herring, because they said he got released "3 months ago" but the shooter had just been released.

And how long was Roy UC for him not to know Sampson at all?

Posted by: mask2343

I think Roy spent at least a year in jail for real undercover. What a terrible job!

Posted by: granoff

I didn't know they cancelled it. That's a shame. I thought perhaps the 2-episode "movie" was a taeser of sorts saying "Hey, look what we still have in our back pockets for you!"

I actually thought it was a potential replacement for the aging (although I still enjoy it) NYPD Blue. Oh well.

Just got around to watching this. I thought is was too over-the-top. It had some good moments, but overall I didn't enjoy it that much. Still, I would have watched if ABC renewed it; the show had potential to build something.

Posted by: rusman

Is anyone that still has this recorded willing to send it to me? If so, please pm me.

Posted by: e30mpwrd

I too thought it was weak. I liked the series before the hiatus, but really didn't like these final two episodes. I'm wondering if it's because I've also been watching the Sopranos, and this show just doesn't compare. On the wife bit alone there was way too little character development to demonstrate that she'd be likely to go to the feds, and as someone mentioned, what would she know anyway? They potrayed Jonah as smart--certainly smart enough to keep his wife away from the particulars.

Hmm, I can't agree with you there. I can see where you might say that she didn't know much, but they've been setting her up do turn on Jonah all along. How many times did he belittle her? Remember the whole "joining the country club (or whatever that was). How about when he turned her neice into a prostitue? I think he even hit her a few times then did the "oh, I'm so sorry, I love you, I'll never do it again" bit. Then to be raped and have you're husband make like you had some fault in it? For any woman who knew enough not to believe that, that would be the last straw.

Oh, I totally believe she'd turn on him. But Roy's been undercover the whole season, and gained the trust of Jonah in the day-to-day operations. I can't imagine she knows as much as Roy.

Perhaps they were going to have it so one of them accidently blew the others' cover.....alas, we'll never know.

On the other hand, they can use her treason to justify having information they get from Roy, thus preserving Roy's cover longer...

oooh, that would take this show into a darker place than most network programs are willing to go. The FBI lets Jonah think they got their info from his wife, thereby protecting their mole, and setting her up to get whacked. And what if he asked Roy to do it? Twisty.

Again, alas, we'll never know...
