USA Remotes Faster ?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Item number 5701968615 on eBay.co.uk claims

"A NEW SERIES 2 REMOTE CONTROL, THIS REMOTE TRANSFORMS YOUR TIVO,NEW LONGER RANGE,FAST CHIP , TIVO RESPONDS INSTANTLY, NO DELAY TO YOUR COMMANDS."

They are dark grey units without the Aux/VCR buttons, does anyone know if its true that they are faster ? (and is £24.99 + 1.40 a good price)

Thanks in advance,

They are faster if your old TiVo remote is faulty!

I haven't noticed much difference myself.

There's someone else selling US remotes on Ebay.co.uk for a quid cheaper :)

Not at liberty to say :)

However, the original Thomson remotes required a very high voltage to even begin to operate.

This means that batteries in the US remotes or newer Thomsons last longer.

In fact you can take the batteries out of an old Thomson remote and put them in a newer Thomson or US remote or any other remote control that I know of and get about another 3 months use!

So it's possible that range/strength of the IR of the original Thomson remotes will be reduced as the batteries begin to be depleted.

However, the remote probably just needs a good clean. It's not hard to take apart as long as you have a Philips screwdriver -only one screw. A flat head screwdriver might also be needed to prise the two halves apart (gently).

I use two US Philips which look identical to the ones pictured and one UK silver and the TiVo is definitely SLOWER to respond to the US ones.
