Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)
So, what's the new superpower going to be? The only 2 that I can think of, and granted I am far from a Supes fanatic, are flying and ice-breath. Since I seem to recall reading somewhere that the producers of the show decreed "no flights, no tights" I suppose the answer has to be ice-breath.

Since the thread has "Spoilers" in the title, and anything we can do at this point is speculate, I'm not going to use spoiler tags.

My bet for the new super power is flying or levitation at the least. They've already broken the "no flights" rule with the "Kara" character. And she said that Clark will be able to do that, he just hasn't developed the ability yet. And we've seen him float, way back when.

Clark has to be able to fly or "willingly float" by the senior homecoming--that's the climax for Superman for all Seasons and it'd be more than a little disappointing if this wasn't leading up to that. The end of season 4 pretty much as to be: Clark and Lana finally hook up, Clark tells Lana his secret and lifts her up in the air, Clark goes away to college and Lana disappears.

But before he gets flight, he may as well get superbreath. After all, he shouldn't get flight til toward the end of the season.

I guess that means there's no other casting changes, which seems to indicate that the last few minutes were just a big tease.

Dare I say, "Well, duh!"? :D

Seriously, though, that was one cast change more than I was expecting. The whole point of cliffhangers is to convince you that more is going to happen than actually will.

Yeah, but he's already "flown", right? IIRC, he "flew" or "leapt tall buildings" when he saved Lana from her truck during the twisters. They even discussed it.

I know that I have that ep on a disc somewhere, but I'm too disorganized and too lazy to find it now.

True, but there was so much speculation in the other thread about Lex, and Chloe, and Clark and Lana, and Pa Kent.

Not to mention the ongoing whether Chloe is Lois Lane :) *ducks*

I'd actually like to see him develop a super-jump ability - that was Supe's original power, which eventually metamorphosed into flying. It would segue into flying when it finally dawns on him that he doesn't have to land!

My fingers are crossed hoping for super-ventriloquism! :D

I think they'll get away with it by just using The Hulk answer.

The Hulk doesn't fly, he can just jump 10 miles.

If you can run as fast as Clark can, and you jump you're going to take off and get a pretty long way.

Has Clark ever gone anywhere except Smallville and Metropolis on rare occasions.

I like the idea that he doesn't realize he can really fly, since Smallville is, well small, he never tests it on a longer scale, until maybe much later on.

There was the ep when Pete found out Clark's powers. At the end they're playing basketball and Clark jumps up to dunk it and jumps way way up.

And does anyone else think Chloe is Lois? :D :p

Well, he was sucked up by the twister, so that was doing most of the lifting work. He later told Pa Kent that it felt almost if he could control his direction... like he was flying. So it pretty much was involuntary. Kind of like the floating. They're teasing us, basically.

Oh.

Never mind.

Well, Clark hasn't developed micro/telescope vision yet, I think.

Chloe is not Lois. I don't recall what episode it was but she said Lois was her cousin in some other city.

Yeah, I guess you're right. I went back and watched that ep again, and it was more the suggestion of flight, than what he later does as an adult.

But also, you'd think that by now, what with all the long distance running, and high jumping, (as evidenced in that one-on-one with Pete at the end of "Duplicity"), that he would have at least tried flying by now.

C'mon, Clark. Spread your wings, boy. :)

Well, he did that 400-500 mile sprint to Hub City to get that doctor for Ryan.
And in "Perry" when his powers were out of control., he wound up in Lake Tahoe.

Considering how his other powers have shown up, (heat vision, super hearing), he may not have the ability to fly anyways, even if he tried.

But who knows, I guess he did "fly up" to save Lana in the truck, so maybe I'm wrong.

Just think of how many pairs of shoes Clark must go through in season. :)

I'm hoping he learns how to tell the truth sometime next season.
