Switching from DTIvo to TimeWarner or Tivo

Hey gang,

Maybe someone can help me out.

Unfortunately, due to a move into a highrise building in NYC, I will have to give up my DirectTivo. And I am considering where to go to next. Currently, I have Time Warners PVR service, which is only ok... my biggest pet peeve is that when searching for a program to record you can only select the first letter of the program and then you have to scroll through all the program to find the one you want.. ie. do you know how many programs you need to pass in F to get ot Friends..... many, many drives you insane.

Anyway, I am considering getting a Tivo Series 2, but I have a question, it appears that in order to watch one program and record another its impossible to do so when using a set top cable box (which is needed for TW) So my question is what is everyone doing to deal with this major problem. Any ideas?

TIA,
Joe

Joco,

Two things.

You are correct that the SA only has one tuner. It will allow you to record one thing and watch an already recorded show.

The other option I have seen talked about is to split the cable - one to the cable box and one to the TiVo. It will only allow you to watch the analog channels live while recording with the TiVo.

Good luck.

Or get two TWC boxes, one for live watching and the other for the SA TiVo.

Sorry about your loss of DirecTV DVR.

Do you have a window pointing toward the SW?

Technically, that's not true. You can watch one program (from Now Playing), while recording another. Not sure why you'd want to watch live TV. That sounds sort of barbaric.

No unfortunately I face N, NE. Besides how would I mount the dish?

Do you have to have more than the basic+standard TW service? You can use the basic+standard TW service without a box. I know you don't get premium channels or digital anything, but for us, it works great. I hate having extra boxes that I don't need and we don't have enough time for all the extra channels any way (two toddlers). We get plenty of channels with just basic+standard TW services and we love that our tivo box controls everything. Hopefully TW won't force digital and their boxes on us anytime soon.

It could be clamped to the windowsill if yuou had the correct view. Or put it in a pot and point it out the window. You will have to change the glass in the window to something that will pass the signal.

Could you approach the apartment management about putting a community dish on the roof?
