Burnoff new Drew Carey Show starts tonight!
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Looks like the network is starting the burnoff of the Drew Carey Show. Two episodes a week till it's over.
My understanding is that they taped a full season and are just now starting to air them. Also, that they had a huge amount of freedom from the network, since the plan was not to air.
I always enjoyed this show, now I wonder if there are any unaired Whose Line episodes.

Here's the AP story of "The End" of the Drew Carey Show:
ABC's Drew Carey Quietly Going Off Air
sorry about the "local paper" link, but every other link I found to this story was full of ads and popups. it's getting harder and harder to find stuff like this without having to put up with the ad crap.

I honestly thought it ended a year ago. Will be interesting to see a "WTF" rendition.
Saw in guide data that Marion Ross and Adrienne Barbeau are returning tonight as Drew and Oswald's moms. Might be fun.

I might not get to see them in St Louis. Tonights are scheduled, but next week our ABC channel has Dharma and Greg and Fraiser on at that time. Stupid KDNL.

Really, D&G? Hasn't that been off the air for a while now?

I just hope my power turns back on in time! (and that today's storms don't knock it out again)
Just in case, anyone care to save tonights episodes. I'll look for torrents first, but just in case.

This keeps coming up, so forgive my ignorance, but what is a "torrent"?

Torrent is a shortform for BitTorrent. From a faq I found somewhere:
"BitTorrent is a protocol designed for transferring files. It is peer-to-peer in nature, as users connect to each other directly to send and receive portions of the file. However, there is a central server (called a tracker) which coordinates the action of all such peers. The tracker only manages connections, it does not have any knowledge of the contents of the files being distributed, and therefore a large number of users can be supported with relatively limited tracker bandwidth. The key philosophy of BitTorrent is that users should upload (transmit outbound) at the same time they are downloading (receiving inbound.) In this manner, network bandwidth is utilized as efficiently as possible. BitTorrent is designed to work better as the number of people interested in a certain file increases, in contrast to other file transfer protocols."
Basically it's a way of file-sharing. Do a google on bittorrent and you'll find out a lot more.

A highly-efficient peer-to-peer app that's great for sharing large video files. Lots of people host TV episodes for downloading.

I'll be watching. I've enjoyed the show over the years. But, like most other shows, it's not as good as it used to be. Plus, I miss Christa Miller!

I don't. I see her all the time on Scrubs! :)

She's part of the Scrubs cast, you know.

I've still never watched Scrubs. I think I'll give it a try during summer reruns.

Yeah, they are have listed a syndicated run of D&G and Fraiser. They do stuff like that when they don't want to show network shows. They have done this a few times in the past.

I think it's actually the show that misses Christa Miller. How did they write Kate off anyway?

I think she married a fighter pilot and moved to Guam

Um, a word of advice.
On Drew, Christa's Kate was feisty but nice.
On Scrubs, her character is outright, 100% a b*tch on wheels. She plays it darn well, but it's almost a 180 degree turn from her Drew stint.
Hope that's not a spoiler.

Well, they knew they were going to eventually air somewhere, but the question was whether they were ever going to air on ABC, or if they were going to premiere as part of the existing syndicated rerun package.
I closed-captioned a couple of these episodes, and they seem to be holding to the same decency standards they had in seasons past...Drew only took his pants off a couple of times. :D

So basically, it's illegal copying (in the eyes of the Digital Millenium Act anyway) and downloading of video, a la kazaa (with a central server, the way Napster used to be)? Interesting how they haven't shut this one down yet!! I'm not getting on any high horse, I use Kazaa from time to time when I don't think a CD is worth buying but I like a couple of songs from it, and I used Napster in the past. I just wanted to be sure what I was doing before I give it a whirl.
Thanks for your response.

I actually enjoyed them tonight. But I hadn't watched much in the later years so I have a question.
What happened to Drew's cross dressing brother?

Um, no. It hasn't been deemed "legal" or "illegal" via a court as yet. It just "is". And there is no central server like Napster or Kazaa.

I didn't watch very religiously the last two or so years, but I understand that Steve left Mimi. The reason for that may have been the fact that the actor (John Carroll Lynch) was cast in a new show last fall. I think it was The Brotherhood of Poland, NH.

Steve had an affair on Mimi. She kicked him out and moved in with Drew.
Or should I have spoilerized that?

I think rgr was referring to what the article mentioned about abc not caring about it so they didn't get nagged like you would on a normal show.

"There were no notes coming from the network. They didn't even bother coming to the run-throughs. They didn't seem really concerned about the character arcs or about promoting the characters they think America wants to see."
Producers had a little fun, took some chances. Parts of some episodes were shot in a single-camera format, without an audience, instead of the three-camera format before a live audience seen on most sitcoms.

Everyone should have a pop-up blocker (toolbar.google.com) and should also go to http://www.everythingisnt.com/hosts.html to stop banner ads. Both make web surfing much more quick and enjoyable.

I hadn't seen the show in quite a while and that was the biggest surprise for me, coming back into it last night.
That and the fact that somehow Drew has another hot blonde girlfriend who just happens to work at his favorite bar.
Posted by: dr_mal
Drew knew that girl (whats-her-name) from grade school. He saw her in a strip club all grown up and took her away from there and helped her get a job at the Warsaw.
See -- completely believable.
I think it's somewhat odd that "Steve" isn't back since the show he quit to star in only lasted about 3 episodes. Maybe later this season?

I've never used it for that. I just downloaded two Linux installs very, very quickly.
