HFC.
That kid was luckier than Willie Garson. There's no fighting luck like that.

Scooter, i always thought you looked like Danny Masterson.

Incredible hands for the winner. I've also been intrigued how much one can really learn from this show (even if you are spoiled seeing the hands except for the short playalong).

Yow.
Still want to shove Foley out the airlock.
I'm beginnng to understand the viewers who really hate the Losers' Lounge.
Still like the 2 hour format though I can sympathize with those who said there was too much filler last week.

After playing so well, Masterson lost a giant chunk by going in on an 8-9 off suit.
I understand that he was ready to push the other guy to the limit, since he was playing so tight he wouldn't expect the bluff, but when you're playing against the random, i would never push my luck like that.

Interesting that the same position has gotten all the cards two weeks in a row.

I'm not sure if it's the players, or the hands TPTB are showing, but I'm enjoying this season's Celebrity Poker, much more than last year's. If you ff through you miss some funny stuff.
OK, what was with the "What would you do?" segment. I must have missed it last week. OK, what would you all have done. Do you really throw away pocket K's when facing two A's on the flop? I know I probably wouldn't have thrown my K's away, even though Phil said it would have been the thing to do. How do you know your opponent isn't trying to bluff you into thinking he has 3 A's? You don't. Do you then rely on luck? or the strength of your own hand? Tough call.
Dule, Dule, duleduledule...had some great hands. He said he'd only been playing for 2 weeks. Was it beginner's luck? Granted a few of the last hands he shouldn't have been in, but for the most part he was getting awesome hands!
I felt bad for James Woods. He's the most knowledgeable of the players but got sh*t hands throughout the entire game. Looked like my luck at the poker tables!!
Danny Masterson also was a tough call. He looked like he really knew what he was doing. I'm not sure that last hand would have made any difference or not. Luck plays a huge part of Poker in general and Hill had it all.
I'll be curious how Hill fairs in the next round.

Never watched the show before but caught this episode about 20 minutes in and couldn't turn it off. I didn't care as much about the cards as I did the interaction between the players. Liked it enough to watch it live.
Season Pass.

So far the finals is going to SUCK. Two people I didn't even know were celebrities.
I am surprised they couldn't get better (at least knowledgable) players or more famous people. Dule Hill is pushing the celebrity label if you ask me.
And that chick who won last week? Bad choice.
Also what is up with half the people being from last years tourney as well. So far I think 4-5 people already have been repeats.

LOL. Exactly why I almost quit watching it as soon as I turned it on last night. I didn't know who the hell he was.

I would love for them to have a special show with the really good players like James Woods, Ben Affleck, Mimi Rogers etc...
I loved James Woods, "These players are s**t, so I have no chance to win"

I posted this in the Wednesday night poker thread in the Happy Hour. Did anyone notice this:

Has anyone watched Celebrity Poker yet (tonights)? If you haven't seen it yet, look for this, as I thought it was funny:
Right before the second commercial break (I think the second, right at the 15 minute mark), Dave Foley says: "find out how it all goes down, right after you fast forward through this"
It took me a minute to realize what he said because, of course, I was about to fast forward through this (the commercials).

Something I just remembered and perhaps I saw it wrong. Towards the very end when there was only two left Dule goes all in and loses. Then they say he still has $24K left. What the hell was up with that? It was slightly before Dule thinks he wins it all but didn't.

Good idea, smak. I'd watch.
To everybody else bitching about Dule Hill: what planet are you guys on that you don't know The West Wing?
Heck, I never saw Friends until its finale, and I still could recognize all the people on it.
Anyhow, it shouldn't be surprising that TWW cast is on this show, given that Josh Malina (currently on TWW) is one of the producers.

They don't show every hand, from what I hear. No doubt there were some less interesting ones near the end they didn't have editing-room for. I agree it was a "huh?" moment.

I know of The West Wing, couldn't care less about it.
As for Dule Hill, name one major role in television or film before or since his five years on The West Wing.

Just bad editing. When down to two people it's easier to tell that they skip hands.
They just need to figure out a way to skip hands, yet not screw up your perception of the chip count.

Holes
Like Mo or Danny are huge marquee names
I just hope Star Jones gets knocked out first and early next week
or at least Norm Macdonald get a few shots in
Posted by: ClutchBrake
Holes? I said a major role.
True about Danny though. Outside of 70's Show he hasn't done a whole lot. Only thing I can think of off the top of my head is Dracula 2000. Not exactly a blockbuster or even a large role.

Oh, since he hasn't done anything you know or care about, he isn't worthy of being called a celebrity? How lame an argument is that?
When an actor shows up 'suddenly' on TV and he's got real acting chops, I always suspect it's very likely that he hax come from the theatre, and that's why I don't know him. And if one goes over to imdb, you will discover just that, that Dule has been on Broadway.
But that's beside the point.
It's enough for me that I know one of the players at the table. I'm willing to 'meet' the rest on the show.
Shows like this are fun for some of us precisely because we see celebrities that we don't already know from somewhere else, or don't know very well. I have a lot of interests, but I can't know everything. So if I see an actor whose work I don't know well, but I like the way they play the game, I'm more willing than I was before to seek out their work in the future.
I know I'm not alone in this -- why else do you think celebrities do these shows? The charity gets money, the celeb gets exposure. It's a win-win scenario.
For me, the ridiculous thing was when my keyword WL for celebrity appearances on game shows picked up the "Celebrity Invitational" episode of the World Poker Tour and all the players at the table were professional poker guys. WTF is up with that? If I wanted to just watch poker players I could watch the WPT all the time.
Sure, these guys are probably well-known within the poker community, and I can see where it would be cool to have an invitational, but I don't see the point of having a "celebrity tournament" where you have a professional poker player at each table too, and then only show the final table, where -- gee, funny thing -- only the pro poker players have made it to the final.
It'd be like having an 'invitational' tournament of horse races where everybody brought their own riding horses to the track and each race had one Grade 1 stakes winner in it. The final race would have all the Grade 1 stakes winners and nobody else. What a surprise.

Did you watch the show? Many times it showed flashbacks of the pre-final tables showing many many celebrities playing.
They were "invited", but none of them happened to make the final table.

This argument from the person mocking people for not knowing the cast of The West Wing. I guess if you know and care about them everyone should know and care about them.
I think we're going to have to call this one a draw! :D ;)
EDIT: Bottom line for me is that at first glance Dule Hill being the center of Celebrity Poker for that night was initially disappointing. After watching the other people interact I stayed with it though.
To me he was boring when compared to the personalities of the other players. Could be because he was a poker newb unlike the rest of them but I don't know because in case I hadn't already said it this is the first time I've heard of the guy. ;)
In retrospect, of the players at the table I'd say James Woods was really the only big name celebrity. For most he isn't the name he was ten years ago though.
Either way, with five people at the table it is unlikely you'll get five boring personalities. I can't wait for next week.

Dule got so extremely lucky. I thought Danny going all in on the 8-9 was a mistake, but really Dule was so blessed with luck the entire game.

I didn't know who he was, and I don't watch West Wing either.
That being said, I think being in a relatively prominent role on a top-rated tv series for 5 years is qualification enough to get on a show like Celeberity Poker.

If I understand what you have said, you didn't see the first week. Wanda Sykes was on that episode and was abosolutely hilarious. Funniest anyone has ever been on the show. She has been on a large number of shows and projects in relatively small parts. I doubt the average person would even know who she is.
I just think your qualifications for enjoying the show are odd at best. It is one thing to say you don't like him because he doesn't have any personality. It is another to say you don't like him because you don't like his status as a celebrity. It is almost like if you transplanted the same personality to a more famous person you would be okay with it.

Hey, it's called CELEBRITY Poker, not STAR Poker. I never heard of the guy either, but I think he qualifies as a celebrity.

The more I watch this series the more I'm liking it. I've always been a big fan of poker and watch WPT every week but this show is not about the poker. Its about the interaction between the players, that and watching the interaction between expericed poker players vs pure n00bies.

I don't think I've ever seen a better example of beginner's luck than this episode. It wasn't just that the cards were going his way - they were, of course, in a very big way - but also it seemed he had an innate sense of when to bet and when not to bet. Other novices may have gotten the same cards he did and just thrown them away, so you can't attribute it strictly to luck of the cards.
Still - winning strictly on the river... man, that's called luck. :)

You're missing one of the best written and smartest shows on television, then.

I really liked Woods' comment about playing with amateurs, because I find myself in the same boat a lot. I put together a 10 player NL tourney about once a month and honestly know that I'm one of the 3 best players out of the bunch. Usually we'll have 3/10 that are good and the rest will range from dead money to not too bad. The 3 of us good players keep finding ourselves watching from the sidelines because of the dumbasses calling some big raise from us while they have some crap hand and then get extremly lucky.
I find it's extremely difficult to predict their play, because it's impossible!
