Okay...
I have been getting some weird stuff on my tivo lately. It records things and reboots during the playback. The backgrounds aren't shown when looking at the list, etc. I suspected a problem with the LBA since I installed a 160gb hd without trying to install the lba48 kernel. Yesterday, I install the kernel because of these problems. Now my SAT-60 won't even boot...it says it cannot boot from kernel.

HELP me please...I am going out of town tonight and have to fix this for the wife...

If you used the normal boot CD (mfstools2noJ.iso), then both the TiVo and the PC will see the drive as a 137Gb drive and the LBA-48 issue just doesn't arise - the extra space is simply invisible.

If you used an LBA-48 bootdisk and didn't replace the TiVo's kernel, then that would cause a problem when the TiVo's hard drive fills up and it tries to access the out-of-range blocks.

I would think this is more likely to be a failing drive than an LBA-48 issue.

Robert,

How often does one fail after only 2 months?

Anyway...can I dd the kernel from my backup hard drive (the old 40gb) to the kernel (3,6) of the newer (not working 160gb) hard drive?

If not, how can I fix, or should I concentrate on trying to take the stuff I have on the 160gb off and burn to DVD then just reformat the hard drive and start over?

Thanks!
