London Activities

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: KRS

I will be visiting London for the first time in ~5 years in a couple weeks. Having done the typical touristy bus tours and cathedral visits, my wife and I are interested in finding out what other fun activities there are.

We do plan on going to the Tate Modern and riding the London Eye. If any natives who post here can give us other ideas, I'd greatly appreciate it. We will be staying in the Soho district, so any cool pubs or clubs would be a great place to start.
Thanks,
KRS

This thread may be of interest, although most items may be a bit too touristy.

I would have thought the London Eye would stand up well, touristy or not, for anyone who hasn't visited since it was created.

London Eye

Scared the hell out of me.

I don't do heights but the thought of a complete enclosure was comforting.

The reality of it was half an hour of hell..

the london eye is really confusing for londoners (well at least for a transplant like me).

the thames runs straight through london doesn't it? what, you mean it has bends in it! that means that there are parts of london that are south of the river that are actually further north than parts that are north of the river.

looking down on london from the top of the eye is not something to do if you think you know your way around at street level... there were bits of town that had no right to be where they were.

good fun though and phil, don't sweat it... the capsules are watertight... if they do fall off you'll get a freefall trip and a river ride thrown in for free :)

"The capsules are watertight" !!!!

What is all that about!!. Are they expecting them to fall off?? You have just added a greater fear about the damm thing!.

Don't worry. They won't be watertight by the time that they've bounced off a few spokes and girders on the way down. :p

You'd never get me up in one of those. My vertigo didn't even allow me to cross the Millenium Bridge. Lucky enough, I was on the right side for the Tate Modern.

What confuses me is that Westminster Bridge runs east-west. It should run north-south!

If you arrange to meet someone at the south end of the bridge then it's obvious, but if you say (correctly) the east end they would have to look at a map!
