Series 1 DTiVo with Turbonet or Series 2 with USB networking?

I'm finally ready to drop Turbonet cards in my old Series 1 DTiVo hardware, but I've gotten to thinking. The TurboNet cards are $70 (new), and with new Series 2 DTiVo's going for $99 these days, would I be better off actually buying new Series 2 hardware and enabling the USB ports on it instead of hacking my old boxes? Are there any pros and/or cons to either configuration versus the other that I should think about, given that the costs to me of both setups are pretty similar?

Well, you will not get future software upgrades for the S1 units, but you will for S2...

I love the looks of my Philips DSR704 units (S2)...

There is higher potential that S2 units will get locked out again (virtually impossible for S1).
