Problem restoring backup - no guide data, constant upgrades

My Dad's Series 2 (40 hour) was having stuttering and rebooting problems, so I thought I would try replacing the drive. The old drive was too damaged to get a backup off of, so I "found" a version 4.0 image on emule. I restored the image to a new 60 gig HD and everything appeared to be fine.

After a week or so, my Dad called and said that the TiVo was reporting only 4 days of guide data left. After checking it out, it looked like it was downloading a software update every time it connected to TiVo's servers. The update would look like it installed, but it would download again next time it called.

Does anyone know of anything obvious I might have missed? Can anyone point me to a known good Series 2 image?

You used an image for a different make of Tivo.
