2nd Drive on DTiVo 704
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I know this question is probably easily answered, but I cannot find it under a search through the site. I just got done running BlessTiVo on a 40G Maxtor drive that came out of another 704 that had a bad tuner. Now that the drive is added to the working DSR704 and the TiVo will not read that the drive exists.
Do I need to format the drive, then bless it?, and/or am I doing something else wrong?

If all you did was put it into the tivo without doing anything, I would assume you have to bless it (probably not even reformat it first) because the tivo sees something that looks like an extra first drive which confuses it, as opposed to a second drive which it can handle.
But then again, if you'll read the Carrot on a Stick post, you'll realize that although I have a DTV704, I don't know my butt from a hole in the ground.

I did bless the drive, but that is all. I am pretty new to this whole thing right now and am just trying to get my feet wet a little before I move on to bigger hard drives and replacing the existing drives.

Did you bless in "noswap"?

I'm not really sure what noswap is. Here is exactly what I did:
Purchased the upgrade kit from weaknees.
Ran BlessTiVo program from the internet onto hd.
Added secondary "blessed" drive to TiVo.

Did you buy a complete kit from us? If so, you didn't need to do anything with the drive on your PC.
Either way, when you booted into Linux, you needed a "noswap" kernel. What Linux CD/floppy/hard drive did you boot from?

Actually, thanks to a little help from my supervisor (I work in DirecTV), we were able to finally just load it up from mfs tools and it will be installed and running later tonite. I do appreciate the help offered, and sorry I posted without completely exhausting all of my resources.
weaknees, thanks for the kit (oh, and no I didn't buy the whole kit, just the mounting bracket and fans since I already had the hd). Now that this is nearly complete, I may be putting a little more business your way helping others around here with theirs.
