I was just looking around TivoWebPlus and noticed that my Tivo is currently at 98.6F.....
Good to know it's not running a fever

Does anyone know what the temperature limits are for the TiVo. Mine normally sits between about 39C and 44C, but I was wondering how hot it would have to get before it shuts itself down (if at all) or dies...

39-44 is a good range. The cooler the better.
The range for my dtivos is 29-31.
over 50 and your playing russian roulette.

Cheers outerlimits Is it maybe worth me sticking an extra fan in there?

Temperature according to what though?
My Tivo says its 48c, however I have the probe of one of those indoor/outdoor thermometers stuck in there, in reads around 10 -15 degrees C less (40C now).
I have got what the Tivo thinks it is down by having a fan blow over the HDD (which is where I highly suspect the temp sensor is, on the HDD)

A DTiVo is usually found to be (much) cooler than a SA TiVo as it has no mpeg encoder chip. My SA TiVo (Series1) runs at 45-49c.

For me it is worth it since I am running dual 120 GB drive setups. I think the 2 top reasons for hard drive failures due to high temps and power recycles when the power fails. So on that end I use a UPS for my tivos.
disco makes a good point dtivo's do run cooler than the stand alone versions.

That's not my experience at all. My DSR704 DTiVos run about 48, but my SVR2000 runs about 38, with two drives installed. I think it is because the 704 boxes are so much smaller,

I would have to say negative.
