I am happy to see that TiVo2go will be coming soon (whenever it actually happens; I'm patient). I really like the idea of being able to view TiVo-recorded programs on my laptop. Will there be any problems using a linux laptop for this purpose? The laptop has xine, mplayer, and ogle, and plays DVDs just fine.
While I'm on the general subject of linux, is there an equivalent for the TiVo desktop software for linux? I note that the TiVo webpage has versions for windows and mac, but not linux. This seems strange to me, since the OS in the TiVo itself is linux...

Probably not, as linux is a more open system that Mac (despite in being based on BSD) and PC used, and disparate, as they would have to make a whole bunch of separate versions for diffrerent distros/builds. The fact that the Tivo itself runs a Linux OS is irrelavent, as the core Tivo app is closed anyway.

JavaHMO works for Linux as a TiVo Desktop replacement; see the HMO sub-forum for details.

Tivo2go is going to be DRM'd out the wazoo, and that kind of software is almost never ported to Linux. Do yourself a favor and learn how to hack your Tivo, so you can extract the vids yourself (which you can do just fine under Linux, as I do). Alas, you can't learn it here.

JavaHMO runs on LINUX because Java can run on LINUX. I do not forsee TiVo putting out a LINUX version for the DRM reasons alone, and support of a LINUX port holds no value to TiVo anyway.
I do not forsee that TiVo will make interfaces to TiVoToGo public like they did HMO. This would make writing an opensource TiVoToGo substitute tough to do. It would be a hack instead of relying on official interfaces made public by TiVo.
so the advice to hack the TiVo is your best bet on LINUX.
