I am attempting to play a Live365 stream on my TiVo with JavaHMO acting as the server software.

I've created a .m3u file with the following entry:

http://www.live365.com/play/226078?LID=538-usa&lid=538-usa&SaneID=24.169.135.253-1087053708171&AuthType=NORMAL&VisitCount=1&bitrate=256&now=1087053811165&pid=40547

I attempt to play that .m3u file and it sits for a while and then the TiVo speaks "Cannot connect"

Any ideas?

Tivo only recognizes the following:

http://ip address:port

Anything beyond the ip address and port will be unrecognized and will not play.

Have you enabled the streaming proxy in JavaHMO:
http://javahmo.sourceforge.net/documentation.html#proxy

The proxy will attempt to get around the restrictions TiVo places on streamnig URLs

useStreamingProxy="true"

is in the configuration file so I assume the proxy is working.

Also, when I play shoutcast streams, that works.

I tested the URL by loading it in Winamp and it is never able to connect.

When I load that URL into my browser I get redirected to the following URL...

http://216.235.80.140:8014/play

try using that instead.

Ok... I tried that direct url with my laptop and the only thing that played was a voice telling me that I had to sign in to my live365 account.
