(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

After I read about the Tivo 10% promotion and noticed that it did not include the 140 hour unit, I looked around on the net to see if a retailer that sold Tivo also had a 10% off promotion. I found one at Buy.com.
The coupon is here .
The Tivo is here .

Poop. I just bought a 140HR from Tivo.com and didn't get the 10% discount. :-(
Does Buy.com have the new 140HR TIVO's though? Or do they have the ones with the black front like the other Series2's? The one I got from TIVO looks like this...

It also came with the new 5.x software that allowed me to do the initial setup via broadband.

This is what they have pictured on the web site. I just ordered one as well. If this isn't what I receive I am sending it back.

Well, the picture at Buy.com appears to be the same unit. You can see the page here.

how much is the shipping?
Posted by: ellinj
free

What is the size of the hard drive? Is it 120 GB or 160 GB?
Posted by: ellinj
120gb

Darn... I had to pay tax even when I bought it direct from TIVO. I don't think buy.com charged tax for other things I have bought from them. (sigh)

They didn't charge tax,

Well, I was excited about this offer but I didn't have much luck. The website wouldn't let me use the coupon. It said I wasn't eligible, or had already used a coupon (which I hadn't). Nor was the "free" shipping free to my address; instead the cheapest shipping available would have cost me $37. So I ordered it from best buy instead, since their shipping was cheaper than either buy.com or the TiVo store. YMMV of course.

For $79 AR you can get a 40 hr refurb. series 2 direct from TiVo.com. Swap the factory 40G hard drive for a $100 160G hard drive (Samsung from newegg.com is what I use) yourself and you have a 157hr TiVo. That's nearly half off the 140Hr. S2 you're talking about. Then you can use the 40G in your PC or sell it for $20.
And the only hardware difference with the new one you're talking about is the front panel/light and ability (in software) to turn off the red/green LEDs.
Of course, you have to be able to do the upgrade yourself.

Yeah, if you didn't get an email linking to the coupon it won't work.

My spamfilter must have eaten this email because I used the link that was given and it worked for me.

Hmm.. maybe I'll get this if the discount brings the price to $300.

My Sam's Club had the 140 hours today for $299.99. They had another sign up for them that said $318.99, so I'm not sure what that was all about.

Cool, I'll have to check it out.

Which 140hr unit was this? The older one or the new model?
Posted by: markandjenn
The new one.

I can't find it on Sams Club's site.

With the new 5.X software, TiVo no longer has the 137gig limit. Which means you could slap in a couple of 250 gig drives and the TiVo will recognize all 500 gigs! I hope all Series 2 TiVo's will see a 5.X upgrade!!!

Yeah. forgot to mention that.

This was at the Sam's in Lake Mary, FL, outside of Orlando. They were on a bottom rack below the LCD tv's.
