Technically Speaking How Does Remote Scheduling Work?

I have two TiVo's sitting behind a firewall. They are both assigned private IP addresses (192.168.0.103 & 104) so how exactly does the TiVo website let them know that I'm trying to record a show?
The only way I can think of for them to do this is that the TiVo's must contact their servers every few minutes to see if there are any updates. Is this how it works or is something else going on?
Does anyone know?

You are correct. With an active internet connection, the Tivos check in every 15 minutes or so.

Thanks. Nice to know it's not black magic. :D

Actually .. it very much is Black Magic.
Balthazar, the Wizard of the East one day had a fight with Merlin over gaining access to the grain silo to do some conjuring. Merlin, not being one to be walked around, took a few grains of black powder and sprinkled it on the ground in a circle around the silo, then waved his hand over it very carefully causeing it to spontaniously combust, thus forming a wall of fire.
err.. umm... nevermind.
So today, a customer told me that they ... *Gasp* Didn't need our Built in Firewall Protection in the Router we deploy to our customers because...... "they already have fire as part of their home insurance coverage"..... Yeah .. woo hooo... power to the people!

I was working the support lines one day about 10 years ago when DOS was still king and actually got the "any key" question.
You work support long enough and you'll hear everything.

Never, ever, forget that by definition, 1/2 the people you deal with every day are below average.

Not so techinically:
It is like the messages that you got when Friends ran long, etc. They are not pushed immeadiately, but they are stored like a message for the TiVo to interpret.
