Salem's Lot?

Did I completely miss this? Nothing was on Tivo so I started browsing the Guide data and Salem's Lot showed up on TNT. I thought, great old movie I think I'll record it. I scroll to it and the guide data says its a 2004 show with Rob Lowe. Sure enough, its a remake. First part was tonight, second part tomorrow night. I let the recording spool for 30 minutes and watched the first part. I actually liked it.

It'a a mini series and my SP is grabbing EVERY showing of each episode even tho I said first run only.. it tried to grab the first one 3 times tonight

Ugh, I totally forgot about it. Will they be showing the first one again so if I set Tivo to grab them all it will get it?

Posted by: GameGuru

Hmm, I just set it to record all episodes and it instantly started recording it now because it is on ... but it is over in 5 mins. Why would Tivo record that?

The book sure scared the turd outa me when I was a kid.

Hope it's better than that unwatchable Shining remake from a few years back.

They are showing in many, many times - some of the showings are part 1 or part 2 installments, others will show the entire 4 hours at one time.

The IMDb gives it an 8.0 so far. Stephen King mini-series are hit or miss but some are great so I am going to record this one. I don't recall the last time I watched TNT but scanning the guide makes me think the programming has been upgraded considerably.

I watched Part I last night (not live of course, but delayed on the TiVo). The ambience and atmosphere is definitely freaky ... the soundtrack and sound effects are nicely done too.

Not sure about the acting ... though they do have some big names in there. As is typical of King books transferred to the screen, there are too many sub-stories and plots going on to put into a movie script without confusing people or dropping plot lines altogether. Plus, a lot of King's stuff in mental, in the characters' heads, which means they have to use the terrible voice-over to get the points across.

Will I watch Part II? Of course ...

Didn't see the show last night, but my trusty TIVO made sure I can watch it after dinner tonight! From what I heard in the office, it played pretty well.

I guess I am one of the few that actually liked the Steven Webber remake of the Shining. I thought he captured Jack Torrance pretty well, and the fact that it was truer to the book was a plus. I thought Jack Nicholson was over the top and, if I recall correctly, so did others at the time.

I liked the Shining remake too. I liked the original movie quite a bit, although it wasn't really King's story. I thought it was great as long as you didn't try to compare it to the book (of course, thats exactly what you are going to do though :) )

Haven't watched Salem's Lot yet. Was one of my favorite books by King. A great example of what he could do before he lost the power to actually focus on the story. I really disliked the original movie, so looking forward to see how the re-make goes.

The guide data on these is a joke. On Sunday night they aired Part 1 twice in a row but the guide data was different. The 8pm version noted it was a premier. The 10pm version called it a mini-series. Thus, there was no way to be sure that these were the same part or different parts! I'm a bit miffed because it took quite a while to work out conflicts only to record a duplicate. Same thing for Monday night. They showed 3 showings and each is cryptically described so I recorded all 3 again just in case. Is it too much to ask that Part 1 be noted as such and Part 2 noted as such?

After seeing part II, my final judgment is that I liked the show, though the ending was a little abrupt. No tie-in between going from the town to the city and the significance of getting the priest.

I don't know about you guys...but I thought the show was terrible. Never did I think I'd be longing for David Soul and Lance Kerwin.

What was with the abrupt time-shifting. Everytime they would do something...it was like..."oops its getting dark again."

Argh!

Did we not know to carry a few crosses and burning torches, already?????

I give this 4 raspberries!! THHHHPPPP!

I liked it. I had never read the book so I had no idea what it was going to be about. I figured witches or demons. So when vampires showed up I was surprized.

I agree. I think I got part two. I will try a few times to get part one but it would help if the guide data differentiated between the episodes

The movie was crap! To many holes:
The cripple who was healed by the head vampire. And his new girlfriend.
The "trailer trash" couple and their baby who was taken by the doctor.
The doc injected himself with something which helped him not turn into a vampire after he got bit.
Are all the vampires dead? And why did they not all die when the leader was killed.
What was the signifigance of his glass eye the zoomed in on after the head vamp died?
The police chief. Did he make it to Miami?
The coroner they kept talking about who was misssing who we were never introduced to.
Was the house haunted? And by what/who? Vampires? Satan?

I was wondering why in Part I all the vampires were wicked fast (real cool effect, by the way), then at the end of Part II, when they are escaping the town, all the vampires are wandering around like zombies from "Night of the Living Dead."

Perhaps they were disoriented from the death of Rutger...
