The Rifleman

My TiVo started recording old the Rifleman episodes on the Hallmark channel a couple of months ago. I liked the couple that I saw and set it up as a SP. I know I watched it a zillion years ago when I was a kid but don't remember anything other than it starred Chuck Conners. It's a nice, old half hour western with the coolest opening sequence.

Old westerns.... Ahhhh, classic tv!

Gunsmoke is on Starz Western and TvLand, too.

I have a SP for the Rifleman.
Great show.

Johnny Crawford (the son) had a brief singing career; my sister had a copy of his album. (I mainly remember his song "Your Nose is Gonna Grow.")

I used to watch this show on some independent channel back before cable was available in our area. Heck, it was before most of us knew cable existed. What a great show. I remember sitting in my parents bedroom watching tv on channel 16 (before it became a Fox network station) and my mom would be in the other end of the house watching her soap operas. Ahh, good times.

Nobody gave Mark McCain any trouble
They knew the Rifleman was his paw
I saw Lucas on a quit smoking advertisement
It must be cool to have an iron jaw

Whatever happened to the Rifleman?
I've got a job for the Rifleman, the Rifleman

Whenever trouble came ridin' into North Fork
The fearful fair folk were never alone
The tall sodbusters let the bad guys make the first move
Shot 'em full of lead and said son, let's go home

Whatever happened to the Rifleman?
I've got a job for the Rifleman, the Rifleman
He really knew how to settle the score
When mercy knocks on the devil's door
When I pray for peace, and revel in war
I always wanted any shirt like Mark wore

Nobody gave Mark McCain any trouble
They knew the Rifleman was his paw
I saw Lucas on a quit smoking advertisement
It must be cool to have an iron jaw

Whenever trouble came ridin' into North Fork
Sherriff Micah was never alone
The tall sodbusters let the bad guys make the first move
Shot 'em full of lead and said son, let's go home

Let's go home.

If by brief you mean as a child, yes. But he's been singing
in Los Angeles for over ten years that I know of and probably
for a much longer time before I moved out here.

Well, I was thinking of the time when his songs were on the charts. I thought that ended about 40 years ago, although I could be wrong about that, too!

I know that back in 1957 television was kinder and gentler and usually had a happy ending. I just watched the second Rifleman episode ever and in this one bad guys try to run them off their ranch, drag Lucas behind a horse, steal his rifle, threaten Mark, burn down their house etc. Lucas in turn beats up the bad guys, ties them up and threatens and beats up their boss. After all that violence, the bad boss guy orders the two other bad guys to rebuild McCain's house and they proceed to do so politely with smiles on their faces and whistling a jaunty tune.

Whistling a jaunty tune??? Man, I should see that episode. I LOL when I read it. I love the Rifleman! :)

The Rifleman series just started showing from
the beginning on WHT or Hallmark channel.

I think tonight is episode 3 or 4.
