FX has the pilot scheduled for 11 pm Eastern on Sunday 6/27. Looks like that'll be the spot to run the whole series again.

Obviously, if you haven't watched yet, you really really should start. :)

Let me say that Ep 1 is what hooked me on this show....frankly, it's the most powerful episode to-date IMHO. In fact, I'm surprised they were able to keep any viewer compassion for Macky after that series start....

Thanks for the heads up. My girlfriend hasn't seen it at all, but is interested in checking it out. She doesn't have much on her Tivo plate this summer, so this could be just what she needs.

Love the show myself, so watching it again wouldn't be a bad thing at all.

A little bit. I'd say they are comparable quality-wise for sure. I'm a huge fan of The Wire, and I just started watching the first season of the Shield. While The Wire focuses on both sides of the story (cops and criminals), The Shield tells its stories from the cops' perspectives. The Wire's story lines are more intricate, but the Shield has a very interesting (and complicated) main character. As others have mentioned, the pilot episode of The Shield is excellent.

Are you sure they are going to show all the episodes from the first season on? When I check out the shield website, I only see the pilot as the only show and that is getting replayed about every 2 weeks.

TiVo guide data shows another episode on 7/4 at 11:00 p.m. No description, but it's consistent with a possible series re-airing.

Well, I spoiled myself and just picked up Season 1 and 2 on DVD at deepdiscountdvd. With the 20% off coupon sale they are having (it ends today), I just couldn't pass up the deal. :)

I have debated watching season 1 again, but after this current season I need a break (in a good way). I am actually now thinking the long delay between seasons is a good thing. It is not as long as the delay for Sopranos, so it is at the point where I am ready to see it again, but have not lost interest.

As hawkamer said, they're not so much "comparable" in nature as they are comparable in quality. I know on this and other TV boards, probably 95% of people who watch and love one of them, also watch and love the other. And with The Shield starting from the beginning, you really can't go wrong in checking it out and at least trying it! :cool:

I'm happy it's starting over, because I never have seen the first two episodes, even though I know the basic major thing that happens in the Pilot. From all accounts, you'll likely get hooked on the Shield from the very first episode, unlike The Wire which took most people 2-3 episodes to really get into it.

Try it! You'll probably like it! :p

As others have said, comparable in quality. The Shield is my #1 SP, The Wire is not much further down the list.

As you know, the Wire is pretty intricate, and the cops aren't dirty, just heavy boozers. Somehow "The Shield" gets you to root for completely corrupt cops. After you watch a few episodes, you will remember the pilot and say "how could I be rooting for these guys?" But that's the beauty of the show. Ironically, a beauty of "The Wire" is that the bad guys are pretty sympathetic -- some of the members of Barksdale's crew, the dock workers -- they're just not the law.

Although the captain on "The Shield" is politically motivated, I think "The Wire" gets into departmental politics a little more.

There really is no comparison between The Strike Team (Shield) and The Detail (Wire). One's a bust-down-the-door type of squad, while the other is surveillance and case-building.

Thank for all the input. I have set up a SP for the Shield and will check it out. It's good to get to start from the begining.

Same here. I usually have it near the bottom of my SP list since it's on a number of times during the week and it will still be able to record other programs that only air one time during the week.

Those guys are my favorite corrupt cops ever! ;)

That's the reason I have "The Wire" and other HBO shows down my list!(and I use ARWL instead of SP for them)

Even though I could move "The Shield" down for those reasons, I didn't have conflicts on Tuesday nights, and it's the one program I had to watch on "delayed live." It's the only program I insist on watching the night it airs.
