Does anyone know why channel 201 is giving me a banner message that "this channel can not be viewed with hdmi".I am sure I am not missing anything, but what gives?

Sounds like your display is not HDCP-compliant. What are you using?
Ch. 201 is a test channel for HDCP.

That explains it.My NEC plasma is not HDCP-compliant.Hopefully there will not be a lot of HDCP-compliant material.

Really? I'll have to check out that channel. I didn't know there was a test channel for HDCP.

So I checked out Channel 201 and quickly realized it's the "Tanya Memme" channel -- that is, the channel that tells novices how to use their DirecTV receivers.
So is this channel really only viewable over HDMI/DVI connection if your TV is HDCP-compliant? My Sony is, but I'm surprised that this particular channel would be used this way.

Limited bandwith and they figure that since there is no actual programming, they will not piss people off if they use it to test HDCP, and since DVI is one on HD recs and people who have HD are generally technically advanced, they don't need this channel anyways or can get it on an SDTV rec should they need it.
