American Casino *spoilers likely*

Since there seems to be some interest in American Casino-DSC (as well as The Casino-FOX), I thought it deserves it's own thread.
From the other thread: quote:
How did you like thier "research trip" to find out abotu clubs with bottle service?
That was a riot. I'd heard that some of the major casino's are doing this. Instead of individual drinks, you buy the bottle. It's much more lucrative for the casino (as they can pretty much charge whatever they want for the bottle) and the patrons like the "scenery"/presentation.
This is one of the reasons everyone tells you not to get drunk at the office Christmas Party. You never know what you're going to do/say to the boss! I'm sure he really got to know his staff a little better. This could work for them or not.
I love the Security scenes. It fascinates me how these large casinos keep the peace at all. Most of these places are Gigantic! They are like small cities. You don't realize how large these properties are until you walk there. While I thought the security guard that got punched in the face was acting like a baby, I'm glad he pressed charges. The difference between these security scenes and one that may be similar on The Casino is I am sure these weren't staged. I couldn't say the same if one was shown on The Casino.
My favorite characters, however are Tata and Ninya. There's some serious sexual tension (on his part) going on. She's got very little respect for him. I wouldn't want to work with either one of them.
I liked seeing how the promotions are put together.
All in all if you like Vegas at all, it's interesting seeing how it works on a day to day basis.

imho, respect is earned, not owed. Tata (which is Quebec-slang for moron, btw :) ) isn't doing anything to earn her respect, quite the contrary. How do you motivate people to go above and beyond for you when you turn a reward in a humiliation (the "champions" chips), and when you chew someone's head off for doing something you gave them permission to do? What an a..hole!
She's has her faults, but I'd say the guy should be looking in a mirror if he wants to know what the problem is.

My boss does that sort of thing all the time. Permission my ass, it was sarcasm, like the chips. If she can't see that, he should fire her ass.
Here's how the conversation went, I'm sure:
Ninya: Tata, can I have tomorrow off?
Tata: Well you know, we have a big staff meeting tomorrow that you would miss if you took the day off.
Ninya: I realize that.
Tata: ...and you feel comfortable with this?
Ninya: Yes.
Tata: Okay [rolls eyes]. Here, have a champion chip.
I get this from my boss CONSTANTLY, but I know beyond a shadow of doubt, he isn't giving me permission. He'll remember this for a long, long time.

I would still say that is a problem with the boss then. If they have a problem with you taking time off then say so. Sarcasm doesn't work well in business.
If I had a boss like that I would just get all time off requests approved in writing.

Actually, he gave her the champion chip after they had their argument because she missed the meeting. "Why weren't you there?" "Well, I asked and you gave me the day off!", "Well, you still should have been there".
That's kind of what I'm thinking when saying she has her faults. It's the kind of guy that doesn't take too long to figure out. With that kind of guy, you don't assume anything: You set expectations, spell out consequences, and let him make the call. (but chances are he'll chew your head off anyway).
I would bet that the meeting in question was never brought up during the day off discussion. He assumed she'd be there, and she assumed that since he agreed to the day off, she wasn't expected to be there.
She definitely doesn't look like the brightest Director, but he's definitely not the sharpest VP.

I concur.

Anyone who turns what's intented to be a reward into a sarcastic way to point out (perceived or real) screw-ups doesn't have a clue how to earn people's respect and loyalty.
Calling her up on the VIP mess-up in a previous episode was appropriate. Topping it off by calling in the checkin guy with her in the office to give him a "champion" chip was definitely not.
These twowould be a better fit in opposite corners of a mud-wrestling rink. It doesn't look like they'll ever be able to actually work together. Right now, they don't work they just argue.

I find the back-and-forth between Tata and Ninya to be really fake and scripted.

I don't like either Tata or Ninya, but they are like a train wreck, you just can't turn away. They are very abrasive together. The lack of respect does seem to flow from the top down. The chef staff is similarly afflicted with derisive comments about the head chef ("Grandpa Joe").
As for the bottle service and the helicopter to the Grand Canyon, those were both well done. I'm looking forward to seeing how the casino implements bottle service as well as further catering field trips.
