Moving from separate DTivo/HD receiver to HD-Tivo suggestions?

Currently I have an SA Tivo, a DirecTivo, and a separate HD SA receiver. I want to move to HD Tivo, and I'm trying to decide which device(s) to retire.
I have a good mix of shows I record off cable (for locals - currently) and satellite, but I usually never "fill up" either Tivo with stuff.
Since I am now getting my locals over satellite, it *seems* I could replace all three devices with a single HD Tivo. Does this sound like a reasonable solution?
Can I also get media streaming (MP3) on the HD Tivo over my home network?
Thanks for your input!

The HDTiVo does not have the home network option. The HD TiVo will replace your HD receiver and DirecTivo, but of course won't record off cable. If you only use it to record locals, ditch the cable and go with just the HD TiVo.

I had DirecTivo and HD Reciver as well. I thought the same question and decided to replace my HD and keep the DirecTivo..
I have non HD programing in the DVR40 and HD in the HR10-250.
250Gb is small for HD programing and I wouldn't waist space for anyother show.

Hmm - interesting. So maybe I retire my SA (and get locals over DTivo), replace the HD receiver with an HD Tivo, and just buy a standalone music player device. I dont want to upgrade my SA to a Series 2 just for the HMO.
At least I'll be saving $16/mo by finally freeing myself of cable. Will have the HD Tivo paid off in only 5 and a half years!

The only reason to keep the DirecTivo would be for the increased storage space. How are things in Madison? I miss that town.

Yeah, I'd have to check out the HD Tivo to see if it can store everything I tend to record.
Madison is doing well - weather is finally getting nice (although yesterday it was in the 50's!). And our HD selection is pretty good!

Suggestion - Wait 1 year for current $1000.00 price tag to be about $500.00. By then the bugs will be worked out too.
I'd also wait until DIRECTV has a better HD programming package.

Sound advice Stanley. Given my other recent expenditures (paint ball gear and flying lessons), this would be far more economical too!

And, you could get hit by a bus in 9 months and will have never enjoyed timeshifting HD.
Get at $250 credit for D* retention before activating the HD Tivo and sell you HD STB. That should get you pretty close to that $500 mark. Keep the D* SD Tivo and record SD on the SD Tivo and HD on the HD Tivo. Four tuners are better than two.

What is this credit for D* retention of which you speak?

Also, don't forget to connect a UHF antenna to your HD-Tivo so you can record your local digital TV stations. Over the air HD looks the best!

Check out the thread about Directv HD Credits. If the link doesn't work, do a search or just look for it...it's about four pages back on this forum.

If you're an existing Directv customer you should be able to cut a deal with their Customer Retention Dept. for credits to be applied to your account to help offset the cost of the HDTivo. It's not a formal promotion. It's done on a case by case basis. Depending on the person and on the CSR you get, people have typically been able to get $100, $150, $250, $300 or even a little more in credits. Some people have had more success than others. Some people have to stay on the line for a while or call back repeatedly to get more than a token offer of free Cinemax for 3 months or Showtime for 6 months or a discount on the most expensive package TC Premier. It's always CSR roulette with D*.
Read the thread. Your best bet is to cut a deal before you activate the HDTivo and commit to another year's service. And, most line-level reps don't have the authority to issue big credits, so you may have better luck if you can get transferred to a supervisor.
I had no luck getting any credits after I activated my Hughes E86 HD STB 1-1/2 years ago, but I was able to get a $250 credit the day I ordered by HD Tivo. If I hadn't gotten the discount, I probably won't have bought it.
