No 30-sec-skip during "save to vcr"? HR10-250 specific?

I used the "save to vcr" function for the first time on my HR10-250 last night, for a Giro stage that my ReplayTV somehow changed channels in the middle of. I have been using the ReplayTV's "save to vcr" function which puts a little title screen before the program, and that's about the only difference. So that's what I was expecting from the HDTivo.

What I got was the title screen, no countdown timer like the ReplayTV has, but ok...and then the first commercial break, I pushed the ->| button to 30-sec-skip as normal...but nothing happened. Had to use FF to get through the commercials for the whole show - the horror! I tried several other commercial breaks, but same results, nothing at all happened when pushing the ->| button. If there had been a power outage (but it's running off a UPS) or spontaneous reboot then I'd expect the ->| to go back to "skip to tick mark" but it wasn't doing that either. This seems more like 30-sec-skip is a "hidden" feature that "they" don't want anyone getting "evidence" of in operation? Or is it for user's "protection"? Do SD Tivos do the same thing?

I don't suppose there is another code to enter to additionally enable 30-sec-skip during save-to-vcr mode?

Yes, my series 2 Dtivo does not do 30 second skip during save-to-vcr. To me, it is a minor inconvenience to use FF instead, not a horror. YMMV.

Forgive me if this is a silly question, but exactly what is a "VCR"?

Well it's one of those ancient devices that require *gasp* a tape that can only hold 4-6 hours of standard definition programming! Sort of like an 8 track tape and records.

Why would you want a 30 sec skip while saving to VCR? Just pause the VCR recording when the ads are on.

Or just play the recording normally and use the 30s skip. I pause the recording just before it starts, press display to bring up the show description, start the VCR or DVD and then press play after a few seconds.

That's probably cleser to what I will end up doing in the future...if it's a choice between beginning title screen (which is kind of nice) and 30-sec-skip (which I *really* prefer over FF)...so much for the title screen. Pausing the VCR tends to give little picture/sound burps on the tape, and besides wouldn't give me a chance to explain "how the heck did you record this" to the un-enlightened.
