Video Output of Hughes 10-250 vs Sammy 360

I have two tv's. One is 480i and the other is 1080i. I have the Sammy 360 hooked up using DVI to the 1080i tv and composite to the 480i tv. Each tv displays programming in the correct format. However, when I try this with the Hughes 10-250, then both tv's revert to the lowest common denominator, 480i. Why will the Sammy box allow separate and different video formats but the Hughes will not? Any work around or is this a case of higher cost give you less flexibility?

It's just how they designed it. Some HDTV STB's can do it, some can't.
Same with DVD players. Some can't output S-Video when set to progressive scan, etc.
