Disk Space

How can I tell how much disk space I am currently using on my S2?

Posted by: rsnaider

Common question with no real answer. A work around is to leave Suggestions on and based on how many you have, you can over time estimate the amount of free space.

They will only record when nothing is scheduled and will immediatly stop if you change the channel while they are recording.

You can't, there's no way without software hacking. Do a forum search for "free space indicator" and read thread after thread of complaint and controversy.

Some people turn on auto-recording of Suggestions, which are always the first thing deleted to make room, and gauging how much space they have left by how many suggestions are left.

Someone should make a FAQ sticky note... you think?

Posted by: JPriller

I think experience shows that no one reads the sticky notes.

Maybe we could have one sticky thread for people who like to complain about the same questions being asked over and over again. :)

Maybe the answer to this question could be provided during the forum's sign-up process? :)

or better yet...TiVo add this feature to the software! save us from this endless question. :D

I got the easy answer to this one. I *never* have any free space. A free space meter on my TiVo would stay pinned at *0*. I guess that comes with the territory when one has 120+ SPs/WLs programmed up...

Excellent idea! On some web sites or software installers, you have to check little boxes saying "I agree" in order to continue. Perhaps the forum sign-up screen can have check boxes for:

[ ] The TiVo doesn't indicate free space available. I will turn on suggestions to gauge free space.
[ ] I cannot get rid of the yellow star.
[ ] The middle-of-the-night Discovery channel recordings are for downloading service data and "yellow star" content
[ ] ...
